eBayWatch/2 Ver 1.09s
I have uploaded ver 1.09s to -
http://www.eclipse.net/~knkrchnr
"eBayWatch/2 is an auction management tool for OS/2 users. It works solely
with the eBay auction site. It is meant to aid the user in searching for,
monitoring and bidding on auction items. eBayWatch/2 is copyright
freeware.
Required -
1) partition with long filename support (hpfs/jfs)
2) rexxutil.dll and rxsock.dll in libpath
3) must start from its work directory, or a program object which sets the
work directory"
From the readme -
- eBay changes randomly break bidding
- fix: AutoBid process falsely shows "(no bids yet)"
- chg: URL Folder monitor now starts at program load
- chg: More url encoding added to item searches
(needed for new eBay servers)
- fix: Buyer and bid info not saved for Buy Now auctions
As usual, any feedback of things strange or broken is appreciated.
Thanks,
Ken
Clarification: PKZIP for OS/2>
I need to clarify a point in my previous announcement regarding PKZIP.
In that announcement, I said that PKZIP for OS/2 is commercial. In fact
PKWARE is only treating PKZIP for OS/2 as if it were commercial in that
your only option from their web site is to buy it. Actually, however,
PKZIP for OS/2 is shareware. The product itself says this everytime it
starts up, and several files in PKZIP for OS/2 archive say this as well.
If you wish to "try it before you buy it", it's on Hobbes at http://hobbes
.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/archiver/pkos2250.exe.
My thanks to J. R. Fox for prompting into investigating this further.

20031113 kernels
I know, I know, there have been too many releases lately. Sorry. Anyway,
here's the updated part of today's readme:
20031113 14.096e
- yet another named pipe fix
- trace fix didn't get into previous w4 and uni kernels
- EXPERIMENTAL: Removed a bunch of redundant locking and unlocking
of
some pages in filesystem code that's already pinned, anyway. This
ought to speed up a number of filesys-related APIs. Also,
re-enabled
the un-pinning of numerous pages of memory from init code. This
memory is now available for other uses, which should reduce
paging on
many systems. This had been turned off since WSeB!
[Moderator note: Download from ftp://testcase.boulder.ibm.com/ps/fromibm/os2/
"This contains fixes since xr_e002/xr_m015/mcp/acp. Important note: If you
use the OS/2 SES facility, you need a new sesdd32.sys dated April 2001 or
later to use this kernel. Also, a matching dump formatter (df_ret.exe),
provided separately, is required, if you want to analyze a dump from this
kernel. Finally, note that os2ldr is only required for the >64mb memory
detection mentioned below."
As always these are not officially supported by IBM unless they tell you
to use them.
**** Please send any followup to comp.os.os2.bugs on usenet. ****
Also note that files are only on IBM's testcase for 2-3 days, so if you
want to try these get them now. Make certain you back up any files
replaced and don't try these on a production system. Read any readme file
before applying any changes. If your system is working well, and you have
no problems addressed by these updates, do yourself a favour and don't
mess with this. You have been warned.
The UNI and SMP files are for WSeB/ACP/eCS Pro (SMP kernel) and the W4
files are for post FP15/MCP versions, including eComStation. Only use the
SMP kernel on a machine with more then one CPU.]
SmartBackup beta available by request
SmartBackup takes the time and guess work out of backing up large
directory trees to CD or DVD discs. It uses a "best fit" sorting method
to minimize the number of discs needed to store all the files it finds.
Currently supported output methods include direct CD recording (using
mkisofs and cdrecord) and zip compression with subsequent CD recording
(which saves long filenames and extended attributes).
SmartBackup 0.7 is now available for beta testing by request. All current
features have tested successfully on my PC. I am now looking for other
users to test it, be sure that it works on multiple system setups and
give feedback about new features that are needed.
If you are interested in trying out this pre-release version of the next
great data backup program for eComStation & OS/2, then send an email to freiheit@syntheticdimension.net. PLEASE BE AWARE that this software
is not guaranteed to be 100% bug free and should not be used in any
mission-critical environment.
PKZIP for OS/2 - ACT NOW!
Hello everyone:
PKWARE currently has an OS/2 version of their long popular PKZIP program
available on their website at http://www.pkware.com. What sets this
archiver program off from most others I've seen is that it is capable of
spanning disks and splitting archives into multiple files. What makes it
even more useful is that the old standard ZipCntrl now supports PKZIP for
OS/2 v2.50, the current version of PKZIP.
Put these two programs together and voila! you now have a work-around for
the 2GB limit when backing up hard drives.
NOTE: ZipCntrl does not yet support PkZip's spanning and splitting
features, but Frank Fortson, author of ZipCntrl, told me he will likely
be adding support for those features after he moves into his new digs.
(Note: The shareware program RAR also spans drives, but the OS/2 version
has only a command line interface with a very archane set of parameters
and is not supported by ZipCntrl or any similar GUI program that I know
of.)
Even without additional ZipCntrl support, however, PkZip contains a lot of
commands that make it easy to produce command files and multi-file
archives.
When you want to restore part or all of the drive, you have ZipCntrl's
nice GUI to make the job easier.
ZipCntrl is shareware and the registration fee is: $35 USD. You can
download and/or register it either at http://www.bmtmicro.com or the
authors' website at http://www.RPFSoftware.com. This product is still
supported, and response to email inquiries is extremely quick and helpful.
PKZIP for OS/2 is commercial software, and unfortunately is no longer
supported. A statement on the web site indicates they will only be
distributing it for a limited time. :-( So if you're interested, you'd
better ACT FAST! Also, they don't offer a download option. You have to
purchase the boxed version. The cost is $47 USD for a single user.
I have used ZipCntrl for years and have been very pleased with both the
product and the support. I used PkZip for OS/2 many years ago to span
floppies, but I haven't used it recently.
I just ordered my copy of PkZip so I haven't had a chance to test it with
ZipCntrl yet. I will post a note here or possibly do a review after I get
it and let you know how it works.
Note: Apart from having purchased both products mentioned in this email, I
have no relationship to either company/ISV.
I18N support in ZeroToaster::MTA
One of the next releases of ZeroToaster::MTA will contain mailinglists and
newsletters.
For a good (un)subscribe mechanism we need response messages in the users
natural language.
To test the internationalization mechanism in ZeroToaster::MTA we created
a small testcase.
We need samples in various European and Asiatic languages.
Please download the file below and follow the steps in the read.me file.
Thanks for your support,
Bernd Hohmann

Here are the latest changes in this version, as posted in the readme file.
(See the Readme for a complete listing):
Fixes to problems that exist in released code:
20031110 14.096c
- 1103 system trace fix not built into some kernels
- fix named pipe regression in 1031 and 1103 kernels
- os2ldr is now the version that "works" with shared interrupts.
HOWEVER, if your system has shared interrupts that didn't used to
get noticed, then you may suddenly get much slower. This happens on
my personal Intellistation which shares an IRQ for the USB and audio.

MR/2 ICE 2.40 has been released
MR/2 ICE version 2.40 has been released, and is available at:
http://mr2ice.secant.com/nick/mr2i240.zip
Changes in v2.40:
* The filter macro "$@" that means "in address book" was rewritten to be
less loose.
* Filter settings for "check no more filters" has been broken into a
separate checkbox. You can now stop filter processing on ANY filter
match, whether keeping it in the inbox or not.
* Some changes to the way message text is parsed internally. These are
low-level enough to be considered "beta", but everything still works here.
* The above was done while adding support for the display of UTF-7 and
UTF-8 (on SBCS codepages only). More to come.
* /SB may be passed as a parameter to MR/2. This equates to "Suppress
Beeps". Beeps on new mail are not generated, although newmail.cmd will
still be invoked if found to exist.
* Semaphore has been placed in a window class to try and catch an obscure
crash. It remains elusive.
* Suppressed some logging that seemed less useful. Can be restored with
/L2, but less logging results for /L and /L1.
lSwitcher 2.7 beta 5 is available
Beta 5 of the new version of lSwitcher has been released. It is available
for download at http://www.ece.msstate.edu/~avl1/lSwitcher/lsw270b5.zip
For those who are not familiar with the program, lSwitcher is a task
switcher application for OS/2 and eCS, which includes an enhanced
replacement for the standard Alt-Tab switcher and a feature-rich task bar.
The program is implemented as both a standalone application and an XCenter
widget.
Beta 5 is mostly a bugfix release, however some minor new features have
been introduced as well. Hopefully, by now all the bugs which were
reported are fixed, so I consider this beta to be a "pre-release". Also, I
will probably not implement any additional features for the version 2.7.
