Rover Pack(tm) Joins the Sundial Systems Family
It's time to a add a canine companion to your OS/2 desktop
April 23, 1999, Seal Beach, CA - Sundial Systems Corporation and Orange Hill
Software today announced that Sundial Systems has begun shipping the Rover Pack
for OS/2.
The Rover Pack is a collection of tools for navigating and managing an OS/2 Workplace
Shell desktop in a useful and even fun way. Rover, the desktop retriever, is the
star of the show. Rover tries to stay close at hand and ready to open the desktop
objects (programs, folders, etc.) that you use. He takes the form of a little window
that "roves" around your desktop trying to stay in "empty space"
-- available, yet out of your way. And like a good companion, he keeps track of
the objects he fetches for you... ready to open them again if the need should arise.
The Rover Pack is based on a unique set of technologies, pioneered by Orange
Hill, to provide this type of Workplace Shell enhancement in a way that is highly
unlikely to conflict with other desktop enhancement products or Workplace Shell
extensions.
For further information on the Rover Pack and Sundial Systems, visit the Sundial
Systems web site at http://www.sundialsystems.com
or contact Carla Hanzlik, Vice President of Sundial Systems, at (562) 596-5121 or
(562) 596-5366.

It also allows you to remote configure any unix/linux Apache. It includes a daemon
that can be compiled under any gcc and thus allows ServerConfig/2 to receive and
save configurations remotely, all from OS/2 :)
IPS is now fully supported. Services and users can be changed via individual
containers per service/user.

First, I have redesigned the home page of my website at:
http://www.geocities.com/SiliconValley/Heights/4301
The menu items on the page are JPEG files created with GIMP 1.01.
Second, this site got its first review on January 8 1999.
That review can be found by going to:
Then click on "Links and Downloads", then click on the links to "Kool
Sites", then click on "Computing" and then "OS/2 in Focus"
to see the review.
The OS/2 Starter Kit is supposed to be a CD for an ONE-STEP installation of Drivers,
Fixpacks, Java, Main-Apps, usefull Tools ... But it will also include a Disk1 creator
for a proper Installation, How-To's, OS/2-Tricks, OS/2-Link-Collection ... The finished
CD is supposed to be hole and partly (e.g. want a Trick-Collection for you Homepage?)
free I think this is a big goal, so I could need some help.
Here are the ways how everybody can help:
- send me your favorite Tricks, Progs (Links is enough(should be free software)),
OS/2-Links
- or come and join, there is a lot to do: creating installers (REXX), testing apps
and helping to setup the directory-tree, Bookmarks and Trick-collection

Hexen/2 updated
Better SFX support, the sfx volume setting now works.
Loading during game start up is done in a seperate thread.
Credits is given in the "About" window.
Setting window is provided for the OS/2 command line parameters. This means that
you are able to change the OS/2 releated settings during game play, you do not have
to re-start the game. Settings are saved in the hexos2.ini file where hexos2.exe
resides. Note that the command line parameters overide the ini file settings.
Better mouse grabbing, if you have turned on mouse grabbing you will not be able
to access the menu unless you have paused the game, either by pressing [Num Lock]
or [Esc] key.

Seems to be a very good week regarding streaming technologies on OS/2 :-)
As mentioned in another mail there is an Amiga and a DOS-Version of a RealAudio
Player. I think it should be possible to port this one to OS/2.
The URL to this page is http://csc.smsu.edu/~strauser/RA.html
(Thanks to Fernando Cassia for the link)
Apple today also released the Quicktime Streaming Server, they call the OpenSource

If you are working on a port, please let me know (ktk@netlabs.org).
I can offer http, ftp and *finally* also CVS access at OS/2 Netlabs.
(BTW: The other projects at OS/2 Netlabs will get CVS access in about two weeks)

QuoteGrabber 2 is a Java/Swing based online stock quote displayer that has an
OS/2 installable version on their webpage. Real time quotes from Datek are also
available with QuoteGrabber 2.

At the recent OS/2 Users Group meeting here in San Diego I did a presentation
on what the X Window system is and how to install it. For the installation, I put
together a simple script to do most of the work and requires only 2 lines added
to the config.sys. One for the XFree86OS2 support driver and the other for the Toronto
Virtual Filesystem. All required environment settings are in a script that is used
to launch XFree86OS2 so removal or concern of system stablility is simplified/reduced.
Steve was good enough to polish up my instructions and put them on the web site.
You can find it at:

Almost every user out there has tried or read about the docs to make RealAudio
player v3.0 work in a winos2 session (and lately also RealPlayer 5.0).
However the overhead of loading a winos2 session JUST for playing audio could
be avoided if we had a native player for .ra files...
Well this dream of a native os/2 player is nearer now... since a group of Amiga
programmers released a native player of RealAudio files for their platform.
I hope some OS/2 audio gurus out there can take a look at the source and come
up with an OS/2 player (or Netscape helper application).
The URL to get the source code is:
- - - - -
Related to the previous notice of RealAudio player sources for Amiga, I have
also found a MS-DOS based player for realaudio files which also includes source
code of the player!
http://members.tripod.com/~ladsoft/ra.htm
This player should work ok in OS/2 as a Netscape helper application since it
is a real-mode program. The sources could also be used to create native OS/2 ports.
Styler/2, previously known as Smart Windows, is an OS/2 user interface enhancer
with both aesthetic and functional features.
The program DLL and the installer have been updated. Since the registrable version
is not yet ready this new DLL will extend the trial time of further 90 days. Besides
that the Smooth horizontal movements feature in the Sizing/moving page now works.
This feature allows to move anywindow horizontally in steps of 1 pixel instead of
the default 8 pixel steps. When this feature is enabled another new experimental
feature will work: the Snap to screen edge feature.

Mozilla is the name of the "open source" version of Netscape Navigator
and is available for Windows, Unix, OS/2, and the Mac. This message was recently
posted to the Mozilla newsgroups:
My fellow collegues and I have finished our documentation on building Mozilla
under OS/2, Linux and Windows platforms. This documentation is the result of weeks
of hard work and we hope we can now all enjoy the fruits of our labour.
I encourage you all to catch a glimpse of our documentation, available at http://alcor.concordia.ca/~c_berry/mozilla.html
and integrate it into your current documentation (by providing links to the above
page or by incorporating our work into your own). Please give proper credit where
it's due.
The page will undergo "cosmetic fixups" within the next couple of days
but should be finalized within the week's end. With that in mind, I'd like to congradulate
everyone on a job well done. Keep up the good work!
