2005-08-08 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: infoDESPAM@DESPAMwarpstock.net Warpstock Europe 2005, the event for OS/2 and eComStation users in Europe, will take place in the city of Dresden, Germany. The three day event will be held from November 18th to 20th at the Leibniz Institute for Solid State and Materials Research Dresden (IFW). Today we would like to draw your attention to a list of accommodation recommendations for Warpstock Europe 2005. If you already know that you want to attend Warpstock Europe in November in Dresden, it is a good idea to reserve your hotel room as early as possible. The homepage of Warpstock Europe 2005 has a list of nice hotels in Dresden. URL: http://warpstock.net/WSE2005/Location/Accomodation/index.html Dresden is very popular with tourists! In November, the advent season is just around the corner and people are coming to Dresden to visit the famous Striezelmarkt (24.11. - 24.12.2005). In addition, the Dresdner Frauenkirche will be consecrated on October 30th 2005. This is a huge attraction and hotels are already booked up since months for that event! We have also reserved a number of rooms at the University Guest House. The Guest House is a normal 3 star hotel. We have reserved those rooms for people that are on a tight budget, students or people from eastern Europe, or/and would like to share the room with one other person! If you want to share rooms to save money, or if you are simply looking for a cheap accommodation let us know and we will give you the required information. If you want to stay informed about the latest news on Warpstock Europe 2005, please visit the homepage of Warpstock Europe - http://www.warpstock.net or install the Warpstock Europe 2005 screen saver module for Doodle's Screen Saver. If you would like to read more about accommodation, please visit our accommodation section at the homepage - http://warpstock.net/WSE2005/Location/Accomodation/index.html. 2005-08-09 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: eamDESPAM@DESPAMnorman.no Source: http://www.norman.com/Support/Knowledge_bases/Norman_Virus_Control/OS_2/24256/en One of the main components in Norman Virus Control is Zanda. Zanda is among other things responsible for installing all new updates, including new virus definition files. Due to an internal timer error in Zanda, it will no longer install updates to NVC after August 6 2005. This will have the following implications: - Attempting to install NVC for OS/2 will fail. The installation will never complete. - Attempting to update NVC for OS/2 will fail. The updates will be downloaded, but not installed. We are working with top priority to solve this issue. For the time being the only workaround/solution for the problem is to revert the system date to any date before 2005/08/05 while installing or updating NVC for OS/2 installations. This article will be updated as soon a solution is available. I can't see that Michael posts in comp.os.os2... anymore (if ever.) coo* has lost a lot of good participants -- probably due to the low signal to pissing-contests ratio now found here. |From: Michael Schumacher |Newsgroups: gmane.comp.video.gimp.devel,gmane.comp.video.gimp.user |Subject: The GIMP 2.2.8 for OS/2 | |Some of you might still remember - or maybe even use - the |operating system of the future that was supposed to free the world |from such things as DOS or Microsoft Windows 3.x. | |Despite being a stable and technologically advanced platform, it |didn't succeed - partly because of its equally advanced hardware |requirements (8 megs of RAM was much in those days), partly |because one of its creators turned against it. | |Today, it's user base is mainly loclizced in certain parts of the |finance and touristic commerces, and only a few boxes remained |with individuals. And with IBM having announced "End of support" |for 2006, the number of OS/2 systems will most likely go down even |further. | |In this tragical situation, it is a good thing that some |individuals keep up the spirit of Free Software and provide |current applications for a platform that is now considered |"exotic" at best. For a long time, GIMP 1.2.2 was the latest |version of GIMP available for OS/2. | |Now, in once amazing quantum leap, this has changed - the current |stable version of GIMP for OS/2 is 2.2.8 - yes, like the current |stable version on the other platforms. | |Prebuilt binaries are available from |http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=gimp&pushbutton=Search | |There are also the libs that are required (GTK+, Glib etc...) and |a XFree86 package.
