2005-10-10 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Paul Smedley Scumm VM v0.71 for OS/2 release 1 available from http://smedley.info/scummvm-0.7.1-os2r1.zip Note that my site will be unavailable from around midday Sunday Central Australian time (GMT+9.5) until around 5pm Monday as I'll be away and will be shutting the server down. ScummVM is a program which allows you to run certain classic graphical point-and-click adventure games, provided you already have their data files. The clever part about this: ScummVM just replaces the executables shipped with the game, allowing you to play them on systems for which they were never designed! Built with Innotek GCC v3.3.5r1 and hence requires libc06r1.dll to be available. Built to work with the following engines: Engines: SCUMM Simon the Sorcerer Beneath a Steel Sky Broken Sword I (w/ mpeg2 cutscenes) Broken Sword II (w/ mpeg2 cutscenes) Flight of the Amazon Queen Legend of Kyrandia Tested with the free games available from http://www.scummvm.org/downloads.php (Beneath a Steel Sky & Flight of the Amazon Queen) as well as Day of the Tentacle & Secret of Monkey Island. Note that the OS/2 version of SDL requires Snap Graphics to be installed. If you want to encourage my efforts, please consider making a donation via the link at http://smedley.info/os2ports.html or sponsor Netlabs or any of the other organisations that are still supporting OS/2 & eComStation. 2005-10-10 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Julian Thomas" As you heard at Warpstock, I will be collecting and generating web page(s) of the WS2005 pictures taken by any of the attendees. A few requests: 1. Original JPEG images, please. I will resize and tweak as needed, but to maximize quality, I don't want images that have already been resized. If you have images in raw format, please convert them to jpg. Lossless JPG rotation (with PMVIEW PRO or whatever) is OK. 2. If you have several pictures of essentially the same subject, please select the best and don't send the others. 3. Email them to me with a subject line of WS2005PIX. Any cropping instructions, optional captioning info (reference picture filename, please) or other requests please specify - I'll try. 4. I have a fast connection and adequate disk space. However, your ISP may balk at sending humongous attachments; feel free to send as many messages as needed but preferably not one per image file. If you need arrangements to ftp the pictures, contact me and I'll work something out (or if you want me to get them by ftp, let me know the specifics). 5. I'm going to be working on this during the week as time permits, but there's work for paying clients and a dentist visit in the cards also. I'd like to receive all the images by the end of Sunday Oct. 16. I realize that some of you may have film cameras and will be getting photocd's with your pix and won't make that date; that's fine, if you let me know before Sunday along with an estimate of the number of pix. Don't worry about filenames (I'm sure I'll get some duplicate DSCNxxx filenames from different cameras) but I'll manage that issue. -- Julian Thomas: jtDESPAM@DESPAMjt-mj.net http://jt-mj.net In the beautiful Finger Lakes Wine Country of New York State! 2005-10-10 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: asuriDESPAM@DESPAMtele2.se I have been in contact with the OORexx development team, and it looks unlikely that an OS/2 port will be produced, IBM did not pass on the OS/2 source. We have two choices here one simply to accept this, another is to try and port it out selves :) since the OORexx code base has been substantially updated since its release, it also seem, that even if we got IBM to open the OS/2 code that it could easily be fitted into the new code. I am looking into the possibility of making an OS/2 port from the OOrexx code if you would like to help, please email me directly at asuriDESPAM@DESPAMtele2.se we need general CPP as well as programmers with SOM programming experience Regards Adrian Suri Top

2005-10-11 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Sander Nyman"<2sanderdaDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net> Mozilla Firefox 1.5b2 (official) has been released. This will be the last beta release of the next major Firefox version. This release includes improvements to the new automated update system, web site rendering and performance. It also includes many bug fixes, and several security fixes. Improvements over Firefox 1.0.x versions include an automated update system to streamline product upgrades, faster Back and Forward navigation, a feature for clearing private browsing data, drag-and-drop reordering of browser tabs, a redesigned Options/Preferences window and better popup blocking. Web standards support is also improved, with support for Scalable Vector Graphics, JavaScript 1.6 and more CSS. Accessibility is also better (including new DHTML accessibility features), security has also been enhanced. Firefox's Extension System has been redesigned to make extension upgrades cleaner (nothing left behind from previous versions). This DOES break some current extensions, so if you use extensions, CHECK FOR UPDATES to them first. Extension authors are aware of this, and many extensions have already been updated. By the time of the final 1.5 release, all extensions should be updated. 2005-10-13 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Andy Willis There were some questions that have arisen from the original email that went out as well as some corrections. First Derek Keoughan sent this: "Just in the interest of clarity, it was an Athlon64 3000+ PC, and it must be mentioned that it was paid for by a Warpstock attendee who wishes to remain anonymous! The way it's written, it makes it sound like I was being overly generous, and that's not fair to the donor." Thank you to Derek for the correction and an apology to the donor. Second, the observant will notice his last name should be correct here which was not the case in the previous message (apologies as I should have caught that). Finally, it was asked how many attendees there were this year compared to previous years. There were 70 attendees this year. That is up from previous year which had ~50 and ~100 the year prior. Top
