2005-11-24 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Andy Willis NOW is the time to look into the future toward Warpstock 2006, the tenth annual Warpstock. The Board of Directors of Warpstock, Inc. is now accepting bids from groups wishing to host Warpstock 2006. The challenge for the Warpstock Board is to be able to announce the location of Warpstock 2006 in the not too distant future. Teams wishing to bid on hosting Warpstock 2006 should submit an e-mail letter of their intent to host this event to the Board of Directors at: bids@warpstock.org as soon as possible. This letter of intent does not have to include all of the details of Warpstock 2006, but needs to indicate: * the location for the event, * the suggested dates, * the suggested format, * a commitment from the local group to put forth the effort needed to stage the event, * the names of any team members and a contact name. The initial Event Team needs only a couple of members to start the process and can add additional members as necessary as it gets closer to the event date. Members of the Board of Directors, who are all members of past Event Teams, will be available to assist the Teams throughout the entire bid process. NOW IS THE TIME TO START! Let's make Warpstock 2006 the best Warpstock yet! Warpstock, Inc., is a North Carolina corporation. The Warpstock annual conference is a gathering of OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More information is available at the Warpstock web site: <http://www.warpstock.org> Top
2005-11-24 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Christian Langanke "the Wireless LAN Monitor, the state-of-the-art solution to manage your Wireless LAN devices, providing the following features: * monitoring the status of your Wireless LAN connection * support of multipe connection profiles, which can be exported and imported * optionally configuring the TCP/IP interface of the Wireless LAN device * automatic connection scan on startup * automatic generation of WEP keys * detection of public Wireless LANs" Hi folks, This new version (including a private fix V2.01) implements some bugfixes (problems with Intel drivers not connecting via XWLAN (this was the bugfix to genmac.dim previously released !), "IP disabled" problem, trap in scan dialog) as well as an enhancement to the scan dialog, allowing to connect to private networks if one or more matching connection pofiles are available for it. A thank you goes to all users showing up on Warpstock Europe 2005, helping me to find the bugs on their notebooks. 2005-11-27 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Eugene Gorbunoff" New version of JUne is released. The package includes JFS recover and JFS unerase tools based on JRescuer technology. An absolutely reliable file system hasn't yet been created. Filesystem reliability is a combination of fault-tolerance and availability of specialised software for filesystem fixing. Use JUne and Jrescuer to achieve maximum reliability. Whats new: * june: experimental support of NTFS unerase (it will be available as a separate product) * june: cache reset. should help to recover files removed some minutes ago. * jrescuer: a dialogue with user if superblock was not found * New flyer http://ecomstation.ru/pic/native-flyer-WSE2005-640x908.jpg (distributed among participants of Warpstock Europe 2005) Did you know? Did you know that filesystem cache size x is measured in KBytes? (IFS=C:\OS2\JFS.IFS /LW:5,20,4 /AUTOCHECK:* /CACHE:x). You can use 4 Mb .. 200 Mb (4096 .. 204800). There's no point in setting less than 20 Mb for JFS cache. Homepage: http://ecomstation.ru/jrescuer Top
2005-11-27 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Franz Bakan" Hi, I now put up a compiled XSane-0.98a for GTK 2.and GIMP 2.2.8 to my website. If you want to try you need to have as a precondition GIMP 2.2.8 installed. This version contains several bugfixes and improvements like PDF and compressed postscript support. It works here - standalone - as gimp-plugin for GIMP2 (It won't work with gimp122, don't bother...) - with XFree4.5.0 - also with HOBX11 It should work with the new SANE-versions from Paul and USB-scanners, but I couldn't try because I don't have a USB-scanner. See: http://www.fbakan.de/xsane-os2.htm Thanks to Christian Hennecke for testing. Bye Franz Top

2005-11-29 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Eugene Gorbunoff" Press-release about the development of a new eComStation system component eSchemes eCo Software, december 1th, 2005 View PDF version: http://ecomstation.ru/projects/eschemes/download/eSchemes-press-release.pdf eCo Software announces the development of the eComStation eSchemes system component, which will allow the user to tweak and tune system appearance, from one single application. eSchemes is developed with Mensys BV technical and financial assistance. eSchemes is part of the ongoing effort of eCo Software to develop applications by using an object-oriented approach in software development for the eComStation operating system. eSchemes was created using SOM technology and is fully integreated into the system desktop. A scheme can contain sets of pointers, sounds, in addition to information about colors of system appearance, and lets the user to configure parameters both of single objects and entire classes. Thanks to the fact that the scheme is stored as a single file, a scheme is mobile and can be easily transferred from one computer to another. Apart from that, the problem with incorrect display of some system controls will be resolved in eSchemes, because it can change the main color in the system appearance, which was previously fixed at grey. Yury Prokushev, eCo Software leading engineer, proclaimed: "eSchemes greatly increases efficiency of system control. During the next years we anticipate to improve the situation in development of component applications." Joachim Benjamins (Mensys BV) considers that "development of new components for eComStation was started back in 2002. We are glad that eSchemes will now form another milestone in the development of the eComStation infrastructure which provides a professional looking userinterface and adds to the unique abilities of the Workplace Shell" We recommend companies to update their software today, to use all eSchemes abilities. eCo Software will soon publish detailed information about necessary changes and recommendations for application development. eSchemes will be available for all eComStation 1.2 users (and next versions) for free. 2005-11-30 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Paul Smedley PHP5 OS/2 port - v5.1.0 - beta 1 - available from http://smedley.info/os2ports.html This is a quick port of PHP v5.1.0 to OS/2. Currently only the cgi version of PHP is included which should work with web/2 or apache 1.x or 2.x. I also have an executable for the command line version (not included in this archive), but do not yet have Apache modules. This is built with Innotek GCC v3.3.5 and requires libc06.dll (available from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip). This has not been extensively tested, but has been running on smedley.info with Apache2 2.0.55 (also built with libc06) for the last few days. Patches for thread support and detection of php.ini in c:\mptn\etc have been included in the executable largely based on Brian Havard's patched for PHP 4.3.1 Currently no support for external databases is included, and php is statically linked (ie no php5.dll). This may change in a future release. Any feedback to paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info Cheers, Paul Smedley Adelaide, Australia 30th November, 2005 Top
