The developers of solutions ensure long life for our operating system because computers with OS/2 make money for their customers year by year. The developers bring new industrial technologies to OS/2, feed support service, fill OS/2 with unique features to keep the solutions competitive. Examples of solutions based on OS/2: ATM, sound processing (speech, digital restoration of sound), training devices (astronauts, oilmen), technical appliances (measuring, medical), virtual machines (mainframes, SVISTA), CMMS, restaurants, etc. Why should you write the story today? * You should do this to protect your investments made into OS/2 platform. * OS/2 users are located in different countries and cities. They will read the story because of OS/2 word :) And spread the information about your company and products among own colleagues. * The developer of the operating system will get information about your requirements and improve OS to satisfy them. * Your story gives stimulus to thousands of users, developers and companies. * It's easy. Solution story is based on usual product flyer. Where to collect solutions? www.ecomstation.ru site is hosting Solutions list since 2002. Now it contains texts on russian language only but you can publish german, dutch, english texts there. How to write Solutions story? Take the flyer of your product, add Introduction, add one-two paragraphs about advantages of OS/2 usage, add 2 advertisement photos/screenshots, 2 screenshots of back-end demonstating usage of OS/2. This new version contains a small bugfix and some docs I forgot to include in 0.98a. It works here - standalone - as gimp-plugin for GIMP2 (It won't work with gimp122, don't bother...) - with XFree4.5.0 or HOB-X11 It should work with the new SANE-versions from Paul and USB-scanners, but I couldn't try because I don't have a USB-scanner. It requires the libc06.dll runtime that is available from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip This version supports dynamically loaded modules. Note however that modules will need to be rebuilt with Innotek GCC. Please send request for additional modules to me at paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info All standard modules (including ssl) are included except for deflate which was giving me grief so is currently not included. A php module is not yet available, however PHP is trivial to setup as a cgi helper until it is available. Please send feedback to paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info. 2005-12-07 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Christian Hennecke" An XHTML import handler for the Maul Desktop Publisher has been added to the new OS/2 World.com bounty system. Maul Desktop Publisher offers a plug-in interface for so-called handlers. These handlers can also be used to implement filters to transparently import from and export to other file formats. The XHTML import handler would need to be able to read a standard XHTML file and convert tags like headers, paragraphs, bold, etc. to the native Maul file format. Moreover, it would need to offer a possibility to convert CSS classes included in the XHTML file by applying Maul stylesheets to the marked text. The current bounty is USD 100. It is sponsored by point blank edv-beratung und service and EDV-Beratung Thomas Klein, two German IT consulting and service companies. 2005-12-07 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Christian Hennecke" Dear readers, Our Tips Editor WD Loughman has informed me that due to changes of vocational and personal nature, he won't be able to spend as much time as usual on compiling the Newsletter's Tips page any more. As a result, we are searching for a person who is willing to assist him in his work. The requirements for the position are as follows: - Persistence: You need to be able to commit yourself to the job for a longer period. There is no use in us breaking in someone who's going to leave again two months later. - Reliability: We have to be able to rely on you getting your work done, and done correctly, before certain deadlines. There always is the possibility of things getting in the way - in that case, we need to be sure that you tell us about it in time. - Ability to work in a team - Grammar/spelling knowledge: As many tips do not come from native speakers, proof-reading and editing is required. - Information resources: You should be subscribed to at least a few of OS/2-related mailing lists or news groups, and scan these for interesting information on a regular basis. The following is desirable but not required: - XHTML/CSS skills: Knowledge of which tags there are and what a CSS class is would be helpful. Your job will consists of: - Scanning information resources for potential tips. - Assembling tips that come from above resources or have been submitted directly to VOICE. This includes addition of introductory lines. - Proof-reading including corrections of awkward phrasing as well as bad grammar and spelling. - Formatting the tips page according to our author guidelines. - Possibly giving advise to the translation team, e.g., regarding idioms and proverbs.
