2005-12-25 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Peter Weilbacher (Posted on news://secnews.netscape.com/netscape.public.mozilla.os2 ) Dear all, if you go to my builds website you will now find an unofficial build of Thunderbird for OS/2 that I called PmW-Tb (as for PmW-Fx to make it clear that this is not an official release and to adhere to the Mozilla trademark rules). It is based on the Thunderbird 1.5rc2 code and hopefully works just as well and better. As MNG/JNG and SVG/Canvas don't make that much sense in a mail client I mainly added Rich's WPS enhancements, EA URL tagging of downloads, and the patch for OS/2 like menus (don't even know if the latter is really required). However, I haven't really used Thunderbird myself and so I am not a good tester. So, if you are a Thunderbird user, please discuss possible (OS/2 specific) problems here in the newsgroup, so that other users can also answer if the behavior is normal or not. Top

2005-12-27 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Peter Brown Hi All Beta3 fixes the problem of all config.sys lines being converted to uppercase - all non-USB lines are left in their original case. Apologies to anyone that had problems as a result of the case conversion in USBcfgb2. This application is designed to help (re)configure USB drivers and devices. It is not designed to install USB drivers, the drivers must already be installed - it should help sort out driver parameters so the drivers become useful though :-) Please read the Readme.txt file included in the package before attempting to install and use the application. Hope it comes in handy http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/USBcfgb3.zip Regards Pete Top

The main purpose is to make scanned book pages better readable on screen after conversion to PDF. Additionally, unpaper might be useful to enhance the quality of scanned pages before performing optical character recognition (OCR). .... Written by Jens Gulden. Project homepage: http://unpaper.berlios.de/ I've compiled it for OS/2. 2005-12-29 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel Web site: http://fat32.netlabs.org/ "This project is based on the original FAT32 sourcecode by Henk Kelder. He released the source to netlabs.org in January 2002 because he no longer had the time to continue work on it. The present release comes in both WPI and ZIP formats. If you want the original package done by Henk, look for it at Hobbes, for example. The present code is compiled by KO Myung-Hun. There are two support groups for the driver: * http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fat32user * http://groups.yahoo.com/group/fat32dev " Downloads: http://fat32.netlabs.org/?show=download "This WarpIN version of the Netlab's IFS contains many fixes, and new and detailed documentation, in INF and TXT formats. You need WarpIN to install that on your machine. This package is released as a part of the new WPI Distro project so you better check it out too! This release is intended for LVM systems or systems that already can access FAT32 partitions but lack the IFS, so neither Dani's DASD or PARTFILT.FLT are included. See the docs for more details. Please make sure that you are using the most recent WarpIN version! (1.0.8 as of 2005/04/23) A .zip package is also available for those who prefer to install the driver themselves." ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/fat32/f32_0911.wpi ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/fat32/f32_0911.zip Top
2005-12-30 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: dwhawkDESPAM@DESPAMintcon.net I have posted BACK_ME on my web site, the URL is at the end of this message. This time I did try the URL to verify that it is valid. Back_ME is a way to make a quick backup of a file that is often changed. For example if you are making changes to a REXX script and want to make certain that you can go back to a previous version. BACK_ME will allow you to make multiple unique backups of a file. Each time BACK_ME makes a backup of a file, it creates a unique name for the backup. It does this by appending a file number to the filename, so BACK_ME requires a file system that supports long file names. If the original file name was CONFIG.SYS, using BACK_ME to make three backups will result in the following files. CONFIG.SYS.000 CONFIG.SYS.001 CONFIG.SYS.002 The timestamp and EAs of the backup file will be that of the source file at the time of the backup. There is a PM and a command line version of the program The file back_me.zip may be downloaded using the following link: http://home.tulsaconnect.com/dwhawk/back_me.zip Unzip it and execute install.cmd to install BACK_ME. The install.cmd file does not modify any of the system files, it only creates two program objects on the desktop. 2005-12-31 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: jvwDESPAM@DESPAMdfsee.com The last one for 2005 :-) DFSee version 7.15 has been released today It adds and enhances many dialogs to make more of the DFSee functionality available through the menu system and has much improved NTFS analysis and directory display. But, perhaps the most significant addition: FORMAT is now supported for FAT and FAT32 filesystems! No matter what OS you are running or how large (or small) a partition is, with DFSee you can now fomat it as FAT32! Select any size partition and then simply: Actions -> Format volume or partition -> with a FAT/FAT32 filesystem will present you with an extensive option dialog ... DFSee is a very powerful disk-utility with partitioning, filesystem and disk analysis, recovery, UNDELETE for HPFS and NTFS, resizing, imaging and cloning. For people familiar with older versions of DFSee it will be good to know that the menu-system introduced in version 6, and greatly expanded in version 7, makes the program a whole lot easier to use!
