2006-03-24 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Steve Wendt, posted on news:www-1.scitechsoft.com/scitech.snap.graphics.os2 SNAP Graphics for OS/2 3.1.5 has been released: http://www.scitechsoft.com/ftp/snap/os2/snap-os2-3.1.5.exe This adds support for some VIA UniChrome chipsets, and contains more GRADD updates. See the changelog for more info about what's new: http://www.scitechsoft.com/snap2_changes.txt "Changes in 3.1.5 (build 500) ---------------------------- . Added support for the VIA CLE266 (UniChrome) and P4M800/VN800/CN800 (UniChrome Pro) chipsets. . Improvements in multi-controller support; running a fullscreen MGL application on a secondary graphics controller while PM is running on the primary controller now works properly. See the MGL samples multi, second, and mgldemo for examples of how to use this. . The default hotkeys for all zoom profiles are now unique. . Zooming was not working correctly on VBE 3.0 chipsets since version 3.1.3; this has been fixed. . The VisualAge runtime library is no longer dynamically linked. You may delete the VACPPRT.DLL file from your hard drive if you wish. . Integrated latest versions (0.100) of IBM GRADD components. This fixes GENGRADD crashes on some chipsets (S3, Intel) that broke in H.099, and fixes the text mode during boot on some S3 chipsets." Top
2006-03-25 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: atomic.frogDESPAM@DESPAMgmail.com ajaxWrite is a free word-processor that works with OS/2, can support Word documents. The only "catch" is that, as the name suggests, "ajax", i.e. web-browser based and requires Javascript. It actually works okay if you have a broadband connection, but of course it depends on how many people are trying to connect at the same time. Supposed to be designed for Firefox, but will work fine with Mozilla/Seamonkey. Can find it at: <http://www.ajaxwrite.com> They say a new application will be launched every week Wednesday on: <http://www.ajaxlaunch.com/> Top

It is currently under heavy development and was released in version 0.1 about a week ago. I thought people might want to take a look, so I built it, and it's now available (as a nightly, built close in time to the official 0.1 release) from my builds page ( http://weilbacher.org/Mozilla/builds.html ). It works with PmW-Tb 1.5.* and probably Thunderbird 1.5.* but probably not with TB 1.0.x. It should be mostly usable but it could also wreck your profile (BACKUP!). Top

Gzip v1.3.3 has been ported - gzip is a popular unix archiver - commonly used in conjunction with tar (ie .tar.gz archives). Bogofilter 1.0.2 has been ported, it is is a mail filter that classifies mail as spam or ham (non-spam) by a statistical analysis of the message's header and content (body). The program is able to learn from the user's classifications and corrections. Any feedback is appreciated to paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info Cheers, Paul. Top

2006-03-29 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Heiko.NitzscheDESPAM@DESPAMgmx.de GBM.DLL 1.37 and GBM command line tools --------------------------------------- (Public Domain) The Generalised Bitmap Module (GBM) is a library capable of loading and saving bitmap files in a variety of popular and less popular bitmap file formats. Programs may be written to use this code, and thus be able to access a variety of file formats without actually knowing what format the pictures are in, or any details about file format itself. In this version, extended PNG, TIF and PPM support is additionally included. PNG and TIF support also 32, 48, 64 bpp colour depths with/without alpha channel. PPM supports also 48 bpp colour depth. It comes with a useful set of command line bitmap manipulation tools. Get package gbmos2_137_bin.zip from Hobbes. It is also included in the WarpIN installation package (see below). Enhanced GBMV2 Version 1.24 --------------------------- (Public Domain) GBMV2 is a fast and simple bitmap viewer and editor for the OS/2 Presentation Manager. Enhanced release of the GBMV2-Viewer from the GBMOS2PM package: * An English and a German version of GBMV2 is included. * An English and a German version of the GBM file dialog is included. GBMDLG.DLL has been extended by: * Bitmap preview within the file dialog * Redesign to fit eComStation file dialog style Both parts got new resources that better fit to the Warp 4 and eComStation look & feel. The package comes with resources for fonts 8.Helv and 9.WarpSans for both, German and English. Several extensions for keyboard shortcuts have been added. Get package gbmos2pm124_bin.zip from Hobbes. It is also included in the WarpIN installation package (see below). The new homepage of GBM for OS/2 and eCS ---------------------------------------- http://heikon.home.tlink.de It provides: - reworked documentation (now also included in the download archives) - developer tutorials on how to use GBM libs in your own programs (work in progress) - download of all sources and binaries What's new compared to GBM.DLL 1.36 and GBMV2 1.23 -------------------------------------------------- GBM.DLL 1.37: * Some small performance optimizations for color mapping in TIF, PNG and PPM when importing/exporting. GBM File Dialog 1.24: * Bitmap preview enhanced If options are entered into options field and the field loses focus, they are now interpreted for the preview. ext_bpp is supported as well but because OS/2-PM only supports 24 bpp the bitmap is downsampled for the preview. * Bitmap info beside preview image extended to show also number of contained pages if a recent GBM.DLL is found. * Fix dialog resource issue with IBM RC compiler (get rid of CTLDATA at VALUESET) which caused a crash with IBM VAC compiled GBMDLG.DLL. OpenWatcom wrc didn't cause any issues. The WarpIN installation archive has been revised to reduce the download size. Please uninstall all versions before 1.36/1.23 first, then install. Download from Hobbes -------------------- http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=gbmos2_137_bin http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=gbmos2pm124_bin WarpIN installation package (GBM.DLL, GBM command line tools, GBMV2, Doc): http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=gbmos2pm124_gbm137_bin_wpi Full source code: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=gbmos2pm124_gbmos2_137_src All binaries are optimized for Pentium or compatible processors but they should run on earlier 32bit processors as well (untested). 2006-03-30 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel There hasn't been much activity in the moderated OS/2 Usenet groups for a couple of months. Be aware that the Big-8 has recently re-organized and they are beginning to look at inactive groups for possible deactivation. comp.os.os2.moderated and comp.os.os2.announce are currently considered "reactivated". There is still a need for a moderated OS/2 group since there are still trolls that have made other groups (right now its the endless Tholen/anti-tholen diatribes in c.o.o.advocacy) almost unusable, unless they are heavily filtered. From a post on news.groups: REACTIVATED: The group was recently reactivated after a period of inactivity and has not yet established an activity pattern. There are 2 Reactivated groups. The month of reactivation is noted. comp.os.os2.announce . . . . . . . . . . . . 2005-09 comp.os.os2.moderated . . . . . . . . . . . . 2005-09 Especially for comp.os.os2.announce if you have an announcement please post it there as well as on the VOICE News list. And if you want to ask a question and not have to deal with attacks from the anti-OS/2-eCS trolls, try using comp.os.os2moderated. If we don't use these resources we risk losing them. Top
