2006-08-18 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Walter Metcalf Hello everyone, VOICE recently purchased both the source code and all the rights to PMMail for OS/2 from Blueprint Software Works. This was done with the intention of correcting what few bugs currently exist in the product, and then enhance PMMail for OS/2 to bring it up to current email client standards. It is important to emphasize that PMMail for Windows, otherwise known as PMMail2000, is NOT included in this transaction, and therefore still remains the property of BSW. A team of knowledgeable developers are already busily working at the task of updating and documenting PMMail/2. The new version of PMMail for OS/2 is expected to be initially distributed as shareware for a nominal amount. VOICE members are expected to be able to purchase the new version at a substantial discount, since it was their fees that were used to buy the source and rights to PMMail/2. If you wish further information, please contact Walter F. Metcalf at the email address below. Sincerely, Walter F. 2006-08-19 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Stephen Carter This was posted to the REXXLA mailing list yesterday: ==================BEGIN FORWARDED MESSAGE================== Hi All, For anyone interested... I just posted the below text to my home page: http://www.rexx.org "I will not be continuing to support any of my software on OS/2 in the future. I don't have reliable hardware that runs eCS 1.0 that I have, I am not going to purchase eCS as I don't use it, and the development environment is extremely frustrating for me. I spend 50% of my time trying to support OS/2 compared to all other platform combined, and it isn't worth the effort anymore. If someone is willing to supply a current version of eCS then I will reconsider my position." GBM plugin 1.20 for Lucide beta 2 or higher ------------------------------------------- (freely usable, see license included) This is a plugin for the Lucide document viewer available for eComStation that extends Lucide for the support of reading all bitmap formats supported by GBM.DLL. It requires GBM.DLL 1.35 or higher. GBM 1.44 is recommended. Do not use GBM 1.41 any longer. GBM.DLL 1.44 and GBM command line tools --------------------------------------- (Public Domain) The Generalised Bitmap Module (GBM) is a library capable of loading and saving bitmap files in a variety of popular and less popular bitmap file formats. Programs may be written to use this code, and thus be able to access a variety of file formats without actually knowing what format the pictures are in, or any details about file format itself. In this version, extended BMP, PNG, TIF, PBM, PGM, PPM and PNM support is additionally included. PNG and TIF support also 16, 32, 48, 64 bpp colour depths with/without alpha channel. PPM supports also 48 bpp colour depth. BMP supports also OS/2 RLE24 and Windows 16/32 bpp RGB and BITFIELDS formats. It comes with a useful set of command line bitmap manipulation tools. Notes for eComStation 1.2/1.2R users: ------------------------------------- Please read the installation instructions. eCS 1.2/1.2R ships with an old GBM.DLL (1.12) which prevents loading of the new GBM.DLL (1.44). Please follow the instructions to use the new GBM.DLL for all programs as well as for eCS WPS features like bitmap previews. If you cannot replace the eCS shipped GBM.DLL, please execute unlock x:\os2\dll\gbm.dll from a command line. Then override the old GBM.DLL with the new one. Don't forget to reboot afterwards. 2006-08-20 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Owen Rudge (orudgeDESPAM@DESPAMopenttd.org) The official port of OpenTTD 0.4.8 to OS/2 has been released. OpenTTD is an open source game in the style of "Transport Tycoon Deluxe". This version is primarily a bugfix release, and is recommended for any users of previous versions of the game. The full changelog is available at SourceForge. Some of you may have used Paul Smedley's version of the 0.4.8 release candidates - Paul's patches are being merged into the trunk to enable OpenTTD 0.5 to be built with GCC on OS/2. It is recommended that you use the official version of OpenTTD, though, otherwise. For more information on OpenTTD, see http://www.openttd.com. To download the latest version, see http://sourceforge.net/projects/openttd/. If you have any problems with the OS/2 port, contact Owen Rudge (orudgeDESPAM@DESPAMopenttd.org). 2006-08-21 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel http://www.mozilla.org/projects/calendar/sunbird/ "The Sunbird Project is a cross platform standalone calendar application based on Mozilla's XUL user interface language" If you have access to the eComstation BetaZone ( http://betazone.ecomstation.com ) you can download Sunbird version 0.3a2+ for eCS. It has been there since August 17th, but it wouldn't run for me so I held off on posting this. The fix was to download MZFNTCFG dll from: http://www.aip.de/People/PWeilbacher/WO/Mozilla/Gecko1805/mzfntcfg_322.zip and put that in the sunbird directory. Since Sunbird is based on Mozilla code, if you are running other Mozilla apps like SeaMonkey, FireFox, IBM Web Browser or Thunderbird, then most likely there will be a conflict in some of the shared modules. To get around this you can use Rich Walsh's Run! utility - http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/run_060.zip Top
