2006-01-10 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: eugenegorbunoffDESPAM@DESPAMmail.ru ACPI stands for Advanced Configuration and Power Interface (ACPI replaces Plug and Pray, MultiProcessor specification and APM) The purpose of the ACPI driver is provide ACPI interface to applied developers. ACPI project consists of: * ACPI-CA driver * Toolkit for developers of drivers and applications * Utilities, widgets, monitors, etc Attention! Installation procedure changed. Put basedev=acpica.add line to the top of CONFIG.SYS Whatsnew: * Added support of embedded controllers (now you can watch notebook batteries) * Reset to PIC mode on reboot * Optimized SMP-related code in psd * Cleaning code * Added some code for C2/C3 state Additional information: * ACPI driver is a product of netlabs.org * You can get ACPI from http://betazone.ecomstation.nl [Moderator note: This never works for me. I have to login at http://shop.mensys.nl/indexuk.html and go through "Your Downloads" next "Software Subscription Services for eComStation 1.2 " then "Access eComStation BetaZone".] * Let's collect ACPI tools here: http://ecomstation.ru/acpitools Top
2006-01-11 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info http://smedley.info/os2ports.html PHP5 OS/2 port - v5.1.1 - beta 3 This is a quick port of PHP v5.1.1 to OS/2. Currently only the cgi & cli versions of PHP are included. I do not yet have Apache modules. This is built with Innotek GCC v3.3.5 and requires libc06.dll (available from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip). This has not been extensively tested, but has been running on smedley.info with Apache2 2.2.0 (also built with libc06) for the last month or so. Whilst there is no apache module, running the cgi php.exe with a shared php5.dll does not result in any significant performance deterioration (IMHO). Patches for thread support and detection of php.ini in c:\mptn\etc have been included in the executable largely based on Brian Havard's patched for PHP 4.3.1 I have included support for some external databases - dbase & pdo_mysql are loadable as shared modules. Now that I've nutted out how to do this, other databases will be added as time permits, with those that people request to be given priority. As always, any feedback to paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info is appreciated. It's really nice to hear of people using my ports! Cheers, Paul Smedley Adelaide, Australia 11th January, 2006 Top
2006-01-12 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info Now available from http://smedley.info/os2ports.html I tried (and failed dismally!) to find a succinct description of what OpenLDAP is and does, but some information on LDAP is available from http://www.openldap.org/faq/data/cache/3.html From the readme.os2 file: Openldap v2.3.17 compiled for OS/2 & eComStation with Innotek GCC v3.3.5 GA version. Requires libc06.dll from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.0-ga2.zip **This has only had very limited testing so all feedback to paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info is appreciated** Note: Under unix, symbolic links of slapd are made in ./sbin to create the various slapd utilities (ie slapadd, slapcat, slapdn, slapindex, slappasswd, slaptest, slapauth, slapacl). As we don't have symbolic links, I haven't included the slapd utilities, but have included a script 'makeutils.cmd' in \openldap to make the necessary copies of slapd.exe with the appropriate names. Known issues: - only supported database type in slapd.conf is ldbm - bdb will not work. - slapd utils in .\openldap\sbin are large - future release is planned to use a dll to reduce package size - no threading support due to lack of full pthreads implementation for libc. Sample configuration: A sample slapd.conf and example.ldif file to create an LDAP database are included in the ./examples directory Extensive (although not necessarily easy to understand!!!) documentation is available online at http://www.openldap.org. To create a database, modify slapd.conf and example.ldif to suit your organisation. To load the data in example.ldif into a database, run slapadd -l example.ldif No output means the data has been correctly imported. Then run slapd, and try a search using ldapsearch - ie ldapsearch -L -b "o=smedley, dc=info" "(sn=smedley)" - which will show all entried with sn=smedley Cheers, Paul Smedley Adelaide, Australia 12th January, 2006. 2006-01-13 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info As per the subject - now available from http://smedley.info/os2ports.html From www.php.net - What is PHP? PHP is a widely-used general-purpose scripting language that is especially suited for Web development and can be embedded into HTML. From readme.os2: PHP5 OS/2 port - v5.1.2 - beta 1 This is a quick port of PHP v5.1.2 to OS/2. Patches for thread support and detection of php.ini in c:\mptn\etc have been included in the executable largely based on Brian Havard's patched for PHP 4.3.1 I have included support for some external modules - curl, dbase, gd, gettext, mbstring & pdo_mysql are loadable as shared modules. Now that I've nutted out how to do this, other databases will be added as time permits, with those that people request to be given priority. Note that for some reason, the sue of pdo_mysql seems to also required libc06b2.dll which is available from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/wvgui/libc06b2.zip PHP 5.1.2 has problems detecting the timezone in OS/2 - to workaround this, and set the default in your php.ini you need to add date.timezone simular to what is shown below in context. You can get the timezones supported in the php.ini from : http://us2.php.net/manual/en/timezones.php ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; ; Module Settings ; ;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;;; [Date] ; Defines the default timezone used by the date functions date.timezone = Australia/Adelaide As always, any feedback to paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info is appreciated. 2006-01-14 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Peter Moylan The announcement of the Thunderbird 1.5 release on this list included the pointer: > A utility to migrate mail from PMMail to Thunderbird is available > here: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/apps/internet/mail/reader/pmm_tbird.zip Note that I have just placed an update to this utility in Hobbes incoming. If you follow the above pointer and see a 2005 date, fetch pmm_tbird.zip from the "incoming" directory instead. The new version fixes a problem in migrating address book entries containing commas. 2006-01-14 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eComStation News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Don Hawkinson" I have posted BACK_ME 1.01 on my web site, the URL is at the end of this message. This time I did try the URL to verify that it is valid. Back_ME is a way to make a quick backup of a file that is often changed. There is a PM and a command line version of the program For a longer description of BACK_ME see: http://home.tulsaconnect.com/dwhawk/back_me.htm New in version 1.01 The command line version will accept multiple files on the command line, but does not support wildcard expansion. For example: back_me file1 file2 file3 The command line version will accept file names via redirection. For example: dir /b * | back_me or dir /b >filelist back_me will back up all the files in the current directory. The file back_me.zip may be downloaded using the following link: http://home.tulsaconnect.com/dwhawk/back_me.zip Unzip it and execute install.cmd to install BACK_ME. The install.cmd file does not modify any of the system files, it only creates two program objects on the desktop.
