2006-04-17 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Roderick Klein Dear OS/2/eComStation user, VOICE is pleased to announce there will be an IRC speakup about Maul Publisher. The speakup is with Peter Koller who is the developer of Maul Publisher. Have not heard of Maul Publisher yet ? Maul Publisher is an industrial strength desktop publisher capable of creating virtually all of the printing seen on everyday household items. You can use it to easily lay out newspapers, cards, books, labels, stamps, posters, charts, forms, and even designs like building plans or furniture arrangements. http://www.manglais.com What is a SpeakUp? Well, it's organized via IRC (Internet Relay Chat). On an IRC SpeakUp you will get a chance to talk to software developers, for instance. The person/organization/company invited for the SpeakUp will give a short introduction about himself and the product or project they work on. And then the real part of the SpeakUp starts! You can ask questions! If you like the information exchange at Warpstock (www.warpstock.org), then you will like VOICE SpeakUps (depending on the subject, of course). We will try and organize SpeakUps every month on a subject of interest. What is new, is that SpeakUps will be organized twice. The first VOICE SpeakUp will this time be targeted at the Asia and Australia. The second meeting will be targeted at the United States and Europe. This targeting will be accomplished by the timing of the IRC to suit the locale. The first speakup on Maul Publisher will be on Sunday the 23 April at the following times is targetted at Asia and Australia and *starts* on : Sunday April 23, 09:00 GMT Sunday April 23, 11:00 CET (Paris,Europe) Sunday April 23, 18:00 JST (Tokyo/Japan) Sunday April 23, 19:00 (Australia/Sydney) Sunday April 23, 21:00 (Wellington) May 6th Saturday speakup targetted at the North and South America. Information will be provided at the speakup. Visit http://www.timezoneconverter.com/cgi-bin/tzc.tzc for timezone help. Channel #voice can be found on any of these servers. If you don't have a IRC client. You can use a web browser to get on the IRC VOICE channel. If you use the Mozilla web browser use the following link: irc://irc.fyrelizard.com/voice If you don't use Mozilla (Opera or the IBM web browser for instance) use the following link http://irc.fyrelizard.com/ (requires JAVA) If this server does work the speakup will be on: irc://irc.ecomstation.com/voice (Please note this is a different IRC network!!) "VOICE is an organization dedicated to the promotion of OS/2 Warp and eComStation to the general consumer through various activities as providing current and factual information about OS/2 Warp and OS/2 related products, conducting IRC meetings twice a month, and sponsoring OS/2 promotion related projects among providing many other services." 2006-04-18 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Evan Koblentz *** Vintage Computer Festival East 3.0 -- Saturday, May 13 -- Wall Township, N.J. *** April 17, 2005 -- Wall Township, N.J. -- The Vintage Computer Festival is coming! For those who fondly remember the charisma of computers from the 1960s, 1970s, and 1980s, this is a must-attend event!! "VCF" as it's known in computer circles is an annual public convention devoted to the enjoyment and restoration of antique computers. The show began in Silicon Valley in 1997 and the current edition is VCF East 3.0. At this year's VCF you will find 17 exhibits of functioning antique computers, six high-profile guest speakers, exciting prizes, and kinship with hundreds of fellow early adopters. Spend a few hours at this event and you'll be in nerd heaven! There will be dozens of antique computers on display from the glory days of blinkenlights, tape drives, greenbar paper, punched cards, homebrew kits, text-adventure games, and much, much more -- and no Windows in sight. Like we said, it's nerd heaven! Use the day to learn, play, or just reminisce with us. So mark Saturday, May 13 on your calendar. VCF East 3.0 will be held at the (new!) Information Age Science and History Education Center, a.k.a. "InfoAge," which was formerly the Camp Evans U.S. Army base and was originally built for the Marconi corporation in the early 1900s. 2006-04-18 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: "Sander Nyman" <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net> Mozilla Firefox 1.5.0.2 has been released. This is a security and stability update. It contains 7 security fixes, 5 of which are rated critical, so updating to 1.5.0.2 is highly recommended. As a side note, an update to the old Firefox 1.0.x version has also been released as version 1.0.8, although why anyone would want this is beyond me. If you have not already upgraded to Firefox 1.5.x (WHAT ARE YOU THINKING???), Improvements over Firefox 1.0.x versions are extensive, including an automated update system to streamline product upgrades, faster Back and Forward navigation, a feature for clearing private browsing data, drag-and-drop reordering of browser tabs, a redesigned Options/Preferences window and better popup blocking. Web standards support is also improved, with support for Scalable Vector Graphics, JavaScript 1.6 and more CSS. Accessibility is also better (including new DHTML accessibility features), security has also been enhanced. Firefox's Extension System has been redesigned to make extension upgrades cleaner (nothing left behind from previous versions). You can download it here: http://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/1.5.0.2/contrib/firefox-1.5.0.2.en-US.os2.zip NOTE: This release requires the C runtime DLLs from Innotek. Available here: http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe NOTE: This release requires IPLUGINW.DLL to use the Java and Flash plugins. 2006-04-19 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Paul Smedley Hi All, I've uploaded a test version of MySQL v5.0.19 to http://smedley.info/os2ports.html Release Notes: 1) no DLL is currently provided - so all client utilities are much larger executables than those found in Yuri's MySQL v4.1.7 2) no libs\*, include\* are provided to reduce the package size - these are available on request 3) built with libc06 CSD1 so libc061.dll is required - this can be downloaded from ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.1-csd1.zip 4) this has currently had very limited testing - but it is running now on my server and being used successfully with my build of PHP 4.4.2 5) All bug reports should be submitted via the bug tracker at http://mantis.smedley.info Users of MySQL v4.1.7 can simply copy their data directory from the mysql41\data directory to mysql5\data and restart with the new mysqld.exe and it should work fine. A *big* thanks to Yuri Dario who provided his patches for MySQL 4.1.7 which were the basis for this updated port. 2006-04-20 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Herwig Bauernfeind This is a lightweight calculator for daily office use, which is optimized for fast and simple calculations. In additions it has options to ease the transfer of - results from PMDCalc Plus into other programs - numbers from other programs into PMDCalc Plus using the clipboard and/or drag and drop. Note: This calculator is not suitable for scientific mathematics, it is not capable to handle brackets, it does not honor point calculation before line calculation. This is an interim release to fix some (mostly visual) problems in case PMDCalc Plus is used on systems using 96dpi fonts. * Changed: The whole calculator window is now freely resizable as the resizing logic produced wrong sizes on systems with small 96dpi fonts which rendered PMDCalc Plus almost unusable on these systems. - Removed: Option to hide keyboard (obsolete) ! Fixed: The font of the tape and the memory register was not saved (and the default font looked horrible on systems with small 96dpi fonts). No other changes, so if you did not run into one of these issues, there is no need to update. I finally decided not to do a release that exactly corresponds to the Gecko 1.8.0.2 release as that would have meant using a nearly one month old code. Instead, I used the current 1.8.0 code but that should be just as stable Changes since last unofficial release - Lots of security fixes and fixes picked up with normal Mozilla.org changes since the last releases. - Include ipluginw.dll now (not PmW-Tb) - Include only one extra DLL now named mozfntcfg.dll for SVG/cairo support (not PmW-Tb) in order not to clash with X11's fontcfg In case you want to use this library combination yourself when compiling Mozilla please use http://weilbacher.org/Mozilla/mozfntcfgft_22Apr2006.zip and let me know if you find problems. It also contains the cairo files that I used. Top
