++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: "Peter Koller"

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=spamcopy

spamcopy copies and converts spam email messages. It does not detect spam,
but is designed to re-route the messages or convert them into an error report.

Spamcopy does just what the name implies. It copies an email file from one
location to another. In the process, the contents of the email are modified
according to some rules.

First, the email destination, the "To:" field can be altered to send the
mail to another destination. This is called trapping.

Second, the email can be converted into a problem report stating that the
mail could not be delivered. This problem report email will be addressed
back to the person who sent the original mail. This is called bouncing.
When spammers see that their mails are undeliverable, they are less likely
to waste their time trying again. Spamcopy has helped to reduce my incoming
spam by about 90%.

spamcopy is designed for use with zxmail, but can probably be used to
bounce or trap spam emails for other mailers. The mail server is used to
check the mail against a blacklist, and then calls spamcopy to copy the
blacklisted mail back into the mail servers dropbox, from where it is sent
on it's way.

SW: Warpin 1.0.14

2006-12-08
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

http://warpin.netlabs.org/

"WarpIN is intended to become the new general-purpose installer for OS/2 to
overcome the current lack of a both flexible and user-friendly installer.
This thing is available to any programmer, commercial, shareware, freeware
or GPL, for free use, even though WarpIN itself is released under the GNU
General Public Licence (GPL). Since the GPL does not restrict usage, and
"usage" with WarpIN is creating and installing archives, you can use it to
distribute anything you like."

WarpIN general purpose installer for OS/2.

V1.0.14 (December 8, 2006)
--------------------------

Fixes:

-- Closing the Archive, View window caused WarpIN to exit. Bug 896.

-- Added a FAIL option to the CREATEOBJECT attribute. Bug 893.

-- Updated documentation for the EXECUTE and DEEXECUTE attribues. Bug 894.

SW: XWorkplace 1.0.6

2006-12-08
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

http://xworkplace.netlabs.org/

"XWorkplace is the successor to Ulrich Möllers popular XFolder WPS-Enhancer
utility. It contains all of its features and a lot of new ones. XWorkplace
is Open Source software under the GNU General Public Licence (GPL),
probably making it the most feature-rich freeware Workplace Shell enhancer
on the planet. Everyone is kindly invited to join the project and
contribute -- be it small bugfixes, or add the feature that you've always
wanted to see in the WPS."

Workplace 1.0.6 has been released. This fixes a load of bugs. You can find
it in the usual places on Netlabs and Hobbes:

Please report *reproducible* bugs on the bugtracker at:
http://xtracker.netlabs.org

From the xWorkplace User Guide and Reference:

XWorkplace 1.0.6 (December 8, 2006)

All the bugs below have been fixed by Paul Ratcliffe unless otherwise noted.

Bugfixes:

-Fixed a trap in the daemon when deselecting the XWP Hook with Xcenter's
Window List widget active. Bug 748.

-Fixed a trap when double clicking on a section header in the Device
Drivers tree on the Drivers tab of the OS/2 Kernel object. Bug 762.

-Fixed cosmetic issues with the Driver description and Parameters boxes on
the Drivers tab of the OS/2 Kernel object. Bug 288.

-Fixed traps and other incorrect behaviour relating to dragging and
dropping. The Trashcan can now accept "discard" objects, like the Shredder.
Bugs 806, 815, 817 and 829. Fixed by Lars Erdmann.

-Fixed a problem relating to launching objects using hotkeys, especially
with the XCenter. Bug 792.

-XPager window dragging to other virtual desktops now snaps to the same
location. Holding down the Shift key allows windows to be positioned
anywhere. This is the reverse of the previous behaviour, at user request.
Bug 733.

-The main icon for the "XWorkplace Installation" folder was updated - this
was only partially applied in the previous version. Bug 760.

-Fixed a bug with the XShutdown configuration dialog wouldn't switch back
from ACPI to APM shutdown. Bug 728.

-Fixed a bug during initial installation of the XCenter where it wasn't
adding the "Desktop Lock", "Find Utility", and "Shutdown" objects. Bug 749.

-The XCenter Tray selection bitmap was made bigger to match the other
icons. Bug 729.

-Fixed bugs with the DEFAULTOBJECT and OPEN setting strings being ignored
with XWPString objects. Bug 823.

-Implemented folder setup string DEFAULTVIEW=SPLITVIEW. Fixed OPEN= setup
string for disk objects which was mostly completely unimplemented. Bug 827.

-Stopped the Shredder Object from behaving like the Trash Can (except if
Shift is pressed). Bug 413.

-The keyboard NumLock LED was not always set correctly when using the
"Enable NumLock on Startup" feature. Bug 831.

-The default for XCenter's "Automatically add to screen border" function is
now off. Disabling this setting now also clears the relevant screen border
setting. Fixed Default/Undo processing for XCenter's View properties page.
Bug 224.

-Printer and Transient objects are now prevented from being moved to the
Trash Can.

-Showing or maximizing a previously maximized and then minimized view of
the WPS Class List caused the window not to display properly. Also affected
Folder Split Views. Bug 865.

-Fixed a bug with XCenter's folder object buttons which sometimes didn't
bring the folder to the top of the Z-order. Bug 319.

-Fixed a bug with the Screen borders notebook page where the settings were
not being saved correctly. Bug 56.

-Window List size/position and presentation parameters (font/colors) were
not being saved. Bug 458.

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Robert Henschel

[Moderator note: This post was actually from 11 days ago but for some
reason was never received so it is being sent out now.]

The ShowImage module for Doodles Screen Saver was updated to version 1.7.
It no longer uses MMPM/2 for loading images but it uses the GBM library.
This library is available on all eComStation system. If you do not have the
library installed, see the "Welcome" page of the installer where to get it.

The SlideShow module for Doodles Screen Saver is now publicly available. As
the name implies, this module uses all images of a directory to for a slide
show.

Both modules are packaged as a self installing WarpIN archives and require
the GBM library.

Event: Call for Warpstock 2007 Bids

2006-12-13
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Andy willis

The Board of Directors of Warpstock Corporation is now accepting bids from
groups or individuals wishing to host Warpstock 2007.

The challenge for the Warpstock Board is to be able to announce the
location of Warpstock 2007 in the not too distant future.

Teams wishing to bid on hosting Warpstock 2007 should submit a letter of
their intent to host this event to: bids AT warpstock DOT org.

This letter of intent should contain a list of the individuals involved,
the city or area in which the event would be held, and the suggested time
of year for the event. The letter of intent may contain any additional
information about the proposed bid that the team wishes to share. It should
also include the benefits of holding the event in their suggested location.
This letter does not need to be in great detail about the proposed event,
but rather, a commitment from the group about entering into the bid process.

The Board of Directors will remain in close contact with the Teams
throughout the entire bid process, including final site selection. The
Board of Directors contains a number of past Event Team members and will be
available to provide support for any group wishing to submit a proposal.

Now is the time to start!

Let's make Warpstock 2007 the best Warpstock yet!

Warpstock Corporation is a Virginia corporation. The Warpstock annual
conference is a gathering of OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from
around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. Moreinformation
is available at the Warpstock web site:http://www.warpstock.org

SW: eComStation 2.0 Beta 3 available

2006-12-14
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Joachim Benjamins Posted on the
eComStation Yahoo mailing list

Available as of today for Software Subscription Services customers via
login at Mensys: ( http://www.mensys.net/login )

!Warning the ISO file is slightly larger than 700 MB so could run into
trouble on certain CDR media!

[ Moderator note: Mensys has since released a slightly smaller image which
does fit on a standard 700MB CD-R. The new file is ecs20beta3a_cd1_en.ZIP. ]

This beta offers a number of improvements that we would like to have tested
on a larger number of configurations. These are:

** Preboot harddisk integrity check **
there are a couple of situations that cause installation problems with
LVM later on in the install process.

These will now be detected before the installer starts and an option to
fix them is being presented. If you choose not to fix them, you are not
able to proceed the installation.
This technology uses a custom DFSee 'engine' and should be safe,
however, neither Serenity Systems International nor Fsys can be held
liable for any damages that may occur to the data on your harddrive.

!!! When testing beta software, always be sure to have a tried and
tested backup of your system !!!

** Harddisk volume resizing **

This beta has a custom DFSee engine that enables reliable RESIZING of
FAT32 and NTFS filesystems to allow shrinking an existing Windows
installation to make room for eComStation on the same system.
To use this feature in this beta, you need to select it from the
Maintenance Console (when booted from CD) and select "Resize Disk"
under the "Disk" menu.

The GUI interface of this feature will be updated before the final
release of eComStation 2.0.

** Genmac **

This package provides generic driver support for several network
interface cards under OS/2 and eComStation. Moreover, Genmac is enabled
to support WPA encryption with the Wireless LAN Monitor 3.x or better.

Genmac and the Wireless LAN monitor will be installed when the
appropriate hardware is detected by the installer. If it is not
detected, you can manually select the driver in the network installation
dialog.

Note: only the selected driver will be copied onto your system, in
order to prevent problems with the MPTS installer later on. This may
seem confusing, when you run MPTS in a later stage, it will not show all
Genmac supported NICs.

A full list of supported NIC chipsets can be found in 'WHATSNEW.TXT'

** ACPI & APM **

Support for ACPI is available in this beta. The current version is
2.15. ACPI will be automatically enabled if appropriate hardware is
detected. You can manually enable or disable ACPI support at page 2
(miscellaneous) of the eComStation installer preboot menu. Even if not
installed, the corresponding documents are installed on your harddrive.
You can find detailed information and testdocuments in \ECS\DOC\ACPI and
\ECS\DOC\APM

Several tests can be performed, please refer to \ECS\DOC\ACPI\TESTER.DOC
and \ECS\DOC\APM\TESTER.DOC

** Core Duo CPU support (SMP) **

This beta supports the installation of eComStation on a Core Duo
computer. To enable it, please select the appropriate feature in the
installer 'Select Components' page (only available in Advaned Install
mode). This enables the use of Intel Dualcore, Hyperthreading and
multi-CPU systems. Please note: AMD Dual Core CPU's are currently
unsupported. Also, many drivers are not SMP capable, which may cause
instability or unexpected behaviour on your system.

For more information please refer to \ECS\DOC\ACPI\ACPI_SMP.DOC

** eComStation Virtual File System (Samba client support) **

Serenity Systems International has reached an agreement with Blueprint
Software Works for the inclusion of the 'eComStation Virtual File
System' driver which provides support for Samba Client. Currently a GUI
to configure it is lacking, but an example of how to mount a Samba
resource can be found in \ECS\DOC\EVFS\REXX

** eSchemes **

eSchemes (in this beta we include version 1.37) provides a new way to
configure the look and feel of the desktop. This is considered highly
experimental and as such can only be installed with Advanced
Installation, under "Experimental Features" the option to select is
"Interface customization". Traditional "eStyler" functionality is
lacking, for example the titlebar customization. Feedback on eSchemes
is highly appreciated. You can find documentation on eSchemes in
\ECS\DOC\ESCHEMES\.

Depending feedback of this beta we will decide if eSchemes will be
available in the GA release eComStation 2.0.

== REPORTING ==

To tell us your findings, please create a report at:

http://www.ecomstation.com/support/beta3report/

You are also welcome to join the TestTeam if you want to discuss this beta

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Stan Pokorney

Cellular Automata Animator v1.0, also known as DrLife is a 1d and 2d
cellular automata engine to run C.A. patterns as large as 1000x1000 cells.
Patterns for C.A.'s can be in Life1.05, run length encoded (RLE), or ascii
formats. Patterns can be modified before being run, and can be selected
from the following sources: A file, a pattern stored as a string of 0 &
1's, or a pattern entered from the keyboard. While running the pattern, you
can pause and single-step the execution. Large patterns greater than 62,000
cells can be viewed in sections which are selectable by marquee mouse
marking the pattern graphic.

All Life-like rules, and many non-life like rules can be run. Binary 1d
rules with radius 1 and 2 are supported. Cell neighborhoods of 8, 9, 4
and 5 cells are built into the program. Other cell neighborhoods can be
defined in a config file.

A number of public patterns are included.
Source code for use with DrDialog is included.
