[ANN] Gendatam Suite Beta 3
Gendatam Suite is a fully-featured Family History application.
Beta version 3 of Gendatam Suite for OS/2 is now available for download at
http://www.gendatam.com/.
The application is a Java program which has been pre-compiled for use on
OS/2. Running as native code makes the application generally quicker and
more responsive.
The application has its own look-and-feel. This provides a consistent
interface regardless of the host system.
OS/2 users may be interested in this application for a number of reasons:
- It is written in Java but packaged as an OS/2 native code program.
- It is a family history program available first on OS/2, but also to be
available on the Microsoft Windows series with data compatibility between
operating systems.
This beta will be of particular interest to those people who like to see
how well programs will read the various varieties of Gedcom files.
This current beta version expires at the end of June 2007.
Feedback is welcome at betaDESPAM@DESPAMgendatam.com.
A note to archive administrators: The version is a beta version which
incorporates an expiry date. There is no point in archiving it.

An update for DosBoxFrontend is on hobbes.
Lots of modifications in the templates handling.
The template name is now seperated from the program name and is now under
the template list.
When adding (saving) a new template it checks and don't accept the same
filename.
A message pops up; file exist.
Added a template save button to save the current template again when
modifications are made.
When saving a program or template and there is not a name given (the field
is empty)then a message pops up to tell there is no name and the save gets
aborted.
When new buton was pressed the templates and program list were reloade from
disk destroying the updates from current session, is fixed now.
I noticed that since a certain ? update the Eatmem option was messed up, fixed.
(I could use some feedback, specially on options-combinations not often used)

Dear bootAble users,
It has been a while since the last update to bootAble, but finally there is
another one :-)
This 4.4 release is basically a bug fix, with only minor enhancements to
the functionality. The next thing I am going to work at is the integration
of the Microsoft Virtual Machine additions, especially the mouse
integration. For this, I may need to revamp the display driver integration
(so far I have been unable to get the mouse integration to work), so this
may take a while (if I can get it to work at all)...

Renamed CDRECORDCLEANDIR
to CDRECORDCLEANDIRBEFORE;
Now cleaning-up temp image files after creating the ISO file or
burning the CD/DVD (CDRECORDCLEANDIRAFTER);
You can now separately specify whether or not the Enhanced Editor
(EPM) should be added to a WPS system (WPSEPM, used to be included with
WPSAPPS);
Fixed bug in dirExists funtion, it now also correctly recognizes
drives/root directories as valid. As a result, the SEARCHPATH can now
contain root directories as well;
Fixed bug with location of PEER related files when cloning a
CD/DVD to a (maintenance) partition (CLONECD);
The script now ignores errors when determining the cdrecorder device
(cdRecorderDevice function) when only an ISO will be created
(CDRECORDCREATEISOONLY='Yes'); cloneCD.cmd will not automatically add asked
questions to the previously used file anymore as this could fail if the
path does not exist on the booted system, and could be undesirable anyway
(WRITEASKEDTOFILE and WRITEASKEDTOFILENAME);
For the same reason, bootAble now removes the SIO logfile parameters in the
default situation (SIOSERIALPORTOPTIONS, SIO2KSERIALPORTOPTIONS,
SIO2KUARTOPTIONS).

I have purchased all rights and source code for MR/2 ICE for OS/2 and
Windows from Nick Knight. All prior official support for MR/2 ICE has now
ended. Future development and support for MR/2 ICE for OS/2 and Windows
will be donationware maintained on a best efforts basis. What you see is
what you get - no commitments, no promises.
[Moderator note: MR/2 ICE is a long time Internet Email/News Client for
OS/2 and Windows.]
Steven Levine is the Chief Technical Officer for MR/2 ICE OS/2 version
(unpaid volunteer). We do not have a Windows counterpart at this time
We will "pay" you to register MR/2 ICE for OS/2. You donate a minimum of
USD $35 for a one year subscription (less than ten cents per day per year)
to PetSmart Charities http://www.petsmartcharities.org/ online. You must
forward me a copy of the PetSmart Charities email receipt with the headers
intact - for your protection, change the street address, credit card
information (type, number and expiration date) to say "cat", if applicable;
your correct name, city, state, country, zip code or equivalent and
donation amount must be intact for registration purposes. Your
registration code sent by email for MR/2 ICE for OS/2 allows you upgrades
and support for one year on a best efforts basis. A registered version
will work forever, regardless of subscription status; without renewal of
the annual subscription, an individual will not have access to newer MR/2
ICE versions nor to registered support. Donating more than $35 does not
buy you a longer period of registration (eg $350 does not buy you 10 years
of upgrades and support). Congratulations you have a legal tax donation
because of your PetSmart Charities donation and you are a registered user
of MR/2 ICE for OS/2. If you can not afford $35, then you can contribute
in the development of MR/2 ICE - I will let Steven explain or you can
volunteer at an animal shelter (written proof required). If you need to
register more than one copy email me off list and we will work out an
arrangement.
Why do we have MR/2 ICE for OS/2 designed this way? Simple. The amount of
money that will come in from OS/2 registrations will not pay for
development. Steven and I are doing this because we enjoy this. Me? I
get to help in my own way the development of MR/2 ICE, learn how to run a
server and more! And especially to help advance the support for Pets!
The MR/2 ICE for OS/2 and Windows mailing lists will continue; Nick has
agreed to temporarily host; eventually, the lists will move to the AlphaCat
Solutions, Inc. servers. Initially the AlphaCat Solutions, Inc. servers
will be hosted by non OS/2 servers until I build a server and learn how to
actually manage a server. AlphaCat Solutions, Inc. web site is being
developed by a respected company and will be online in the future. On our
lists, please treat everyone with respect as if each individual is a Sensei
(respected teacher) - the lists are now moderated. The MR/2 ICE Experts
list will discontinued.
MR/2 ICE will be available on a Time Trial basis which will time out if not
registered in sixty days. Remember that upgrades and support are on a best
efforts basis; Steven and I both have full time jobs and other interests.
We reserve the right if your needs can not be addressed to terminate your
license and possibly access to all support including but not limited to the
mailing lists and I will personally refund the money you donated (maximum
refund of USD $35 per individual, family, or business).
I am looking for a programmer to help develop MR/2 ICE for Windows - I have
allocated a minimum of USD $5,000 to pay this programmer (with time and
software targets tied into pay) - I anticipate the total financial cost to
do a refined MR/2 for ICE Windows client to be significantly more. We may
switch from a donationware model to shareware model. I want a piece of the
Windows email client market. I would like to pay Steven Levine for his
services and get my money back out at cost.
We reserve the right to change the Terms of Service at anytime. Final
interpretation of the Terms of Service is by me.

I don't quite know which category to post this in, but it's worth posting
as there appears to be a fairly common problem with the libpath statement
in OS/2 Config.sys.
Here is a libpath (shortened) as it was sent to me:-
LIBPATH=C:\OS2\DLL\LIBC06.DLL;C:\OS2\DLL\LIBC061.DLL;C:\OS2\DLL\GCC335.DLL;C:\ECS\DLL\VROBJ.DLL;C:\IBMLAN\NETLIB;C:\MUGLIB\DLL;C:\ECS\DLL;.;C:\O
S2\DLL;
.... in case you can't spot it, there are filenames in there. This won't
affect OS/2 starting, but expect some strange behaviour!
As I am fairly sure these dll names were not added manually (I have seen
this happen on my own system), I suggest that all OS/2 users do a little
regular DIY house maintenance, and check that their libpath statement only
contains paths to folders, and not filenames!

This is the second preview release of the Samba 3.0.25 code base

Off-line Logons and AD Site Support
===================================
Winbind's capability to support offline logons has been greatly
improved with the 3.0.25 release including support for locating
domain controllers asynchronously using Active Directory Site
information.
New IdMap Interface for Winbindd
================================
The 3.0.25 release of Samba will include a rewritten IdMap interface
for winbindd which replaces the "idmap backend" parameter. The
initial design document may be found at

Dynamic DNS Updates
===================
The "net ads join" command is now able to register the host's DNS A
records with Windows 2000 SP4 and 2003 DNS servers. This
feature must be enabled at compile time using the --with-dnsupdate
when running the ./configure script. There is also a related "net ads
dns" command for refreshing a host's records which could be launched
from a dhcp client script when a new IP address is obtained.
Support for Additional ACL Modules
==================================
Samba's POSIX ACL support has been moved inside of the VFS layer
which means it is now possible to support multiple ACL implementations
on the same server including NFSv3 and GPFS ACLs.
