2007-04-08 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel This is a new Screen Saver for OS/2 and eCS. It's integrated into WPS, replaces the old Lockup Desktop facility, and can cooperate with third party applications. Changelog.txt: * v1.7.5 : 2007.03.08. - Modified DPMS handling, so that it can be told *NOT* to use SNAP, but use direct VGA register access. This might be a bit risky, and only supports ON and OFF modes, but this is the only working method when SNAP has problems with the monitor. A REXX tool has been included to turn on/off this feature. - Added new module: SlideShow (Thanks to Warp5!) - Updated ShowInage and SlideShow modules to v1.7.1. They now use the GBM library to decode images, not the MMPM IOProcs. - Modified Cairo modules so they now link to Cairo v1.2.4 This should resolve FontConfig problems. - Compiler upgraded to OpenWatcom v1.6. It can be downloaded from hobbes. http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/dssaver_v175.zip http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=dssaver_v175.zip Currently on Netlabs in their \incoming directory: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/dssaver_v175.exe Also the source can be found at ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/incoming/dssaver_v175_srcbin.zip Please note that if you want to use the Cairo saver modules, they require Cairo v1.2.4 Runtime to be installed first. 2007-04-09 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Robert Henschel We would like to inform all developers that plan to attend the OS/2 and eComStation Developers Workshop 2007 that you can buy tickets now! We use the Mensys online shop for registration. The shop is secure and offers a number of different ways to pay the registration fee. While it will be possible to register at the checkin desk, we strongly suggest not doing this. Why? Because we have to know how many people are attending the workshop! (at least, roughly!) We know that some people make a last minute decision to participate and that is OK with us. However, if you already know that you want to attend, please use the online shop to register! The final prices for the event are: 45 EUR for a two day registration 25 EUR for a one day registration Students have free access. The tickets include only the entrance fee for the workshop. Lunch has to be purchases separately, we will announce more details on this later. In addition, we offer Workshop Sponsor Units. The Workshop Sponsor Units will be used to pay travel costs for developers that come from eastern Europe. Presentations: ============== If you are interested in presenting at this years Developers Workshop, you should contact us as soon as possible. We are already talking with a number of developers about possible topics but there is no final schedule yet. We will be having 7 presentations every day, each will 45 minutes long. Please mail a short description of your presentation to our contact email address: DevelopersWorkshop@netlabs.org Accommodation: ============== On the workshop homepage, you will find the link to a cheap but good quality youth hostel in Amsterdam. We will also be adding some other options in the near future. 2007-04-10 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Paul Smedley Hi All, As per the below announcement, Samba 3.0.25rc1 has been released. An OS/2 & eComstation build is available from http://svn.netlabs.org/samba Enjoy! Paul. -------- Original Message -------- Subject: Samba 3.0.25rc1 Available for Download Date: Mon, 09 Apr 2007 15:10:40 -0500 From: Gerald (Jerry) Carter To: samba-announceDESPAM@DESPAMsamba.org -----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 ============================================================== Port 80 is the new HTTP. -- Jeremy Allison on Web Services ============================================================== Release Announcements ===================== This is the first release candidate of the Samba 3.0.25 code base and is provided for testing only. An RC release means that we are close to the final release but the code may still have a few remaining minor bugs. This release is *not* intended for production servers. There has been a substantial amount of development since the 3.0.23/3.0.24 series of stable releases. We would like to ask the Samba community for help in testing these changes as we work towards the next significant production upgrade Samba 3.0 release. Major features included in the 3.0.25 code base include: o Significant improvements in the winbind off-line logon support. o Support for secure DDNS updates as part of the 'net ads join' process. o Rewritten IdMap interface which allows for TTL based caching and per domain backends. o New plug-in interface for the "winbind nss info" parameter. o New file change notify subsystem which is able to make use of inotify on Linux. o Support for passing Windows security descriptors to a VFS plug-in allowing for multiple Unix ACL implements to running side by side on the Same server. o Improved compatibility with Windows Vista clients including improved read performance with Linux servers. o Man pages for VFS plug-ins. Off-line Logons and AD Site Support =================================== Winbind's capability to support offline logons has been greatly improved with the 3.0.25 release including support for locating domain controllers asynchronously using Active Directory Site information. New IdMap Interface for Winbindd ================================ The 3.0.25 release of Samba will include a rewritten IdMap interface for winbindd which replaces the "idmap backend" parameter. The initial design document may be found at http://www.samba.org/~idra/samba3_newidmap.pdf Please refer to the "idmap domains" description in the smb.conf(5) man page for more details. Dynamic DNS Updates =================== The "net ads join" command is now able to register the host's DNS A records with Windows 2000 SP4 and 2003 DNS servers. This feature must be enabled at compile time using the --with-dnsupdate when running the ./configure script. There is also a related "net ads dns" command for refreshing a host's records which could be launched from a dhcp client script when a new IP address is obtained. Support for Additional ACL Modules ================================== Samba's POSIX ACL support has been moved inside of the VFS layer which means it is now possible to support multiple ACL implementations on the same server including NFSv4 and GPFS ACLs. VFS ReadAhead Plugin ==================== Windows Vista introduces pipe-lined read support for improved performance when transferring files. The new vfs_readahead plugin allows Linux file servers to utilize additional Kernel buffers for caching files in order to avoid Disk I/O wait time when serving Vista clients. If you experience poor read performance between Linux servers and Vista clients, please test the vfs_readahead module by adding the following lines to the share definition in smb.conf: [file_share] vfs objects = readahead Note that this plugin will result in additional RAM requirements due to the increased amount of kernel buffer caches used by smbd. Please refer to vfs_readahead(8) for more information. ================ Download Details ================ The uncompressed tarballs and patch files have been signed using GnuPG (ID 6568B7EA). The source code can be downloaded from: http://download.samba.org/samba/ftp/rc/ The release notes are available online at: http://www.samba.org/samba/ftp/rc/WHATSNEW-3-0-25rc1.txt Binary packages will be made available on a volunteer basis from http://download.samba.org/samba/ftp/Binary_Packages/ Our Code, Our Bugs, Our Responsibility. Thanks a lot to everybody who donated! Yesterday I also received the donations that have been done via Mensys (thanks a lot to Joachim for his help) and in total we now have more than 1700 EUR :-)))) So today I will look for a laptop and a port replicator and will inform you about the actual status on http://www.os2.org ! Unfortunately some donors are "missing", I have more money than people who answered me how much they donated via Mensys (or s.b. donated more than he wrote me?). So please, if you did NOT got an e-mail with a donation-number write me an e-mail with the order overview/confirmation from Mensys! Thanks again for your great support, Thorolf Top

This process is called IP packet filtering. This feature is derived from the IBM SecureWay Firewall product, parts of which have been ported from AIX along with the 32-bit TCP/IP stack. In addition to packet filtering, IPSec tunnel support has also been brought over from the SecureWay product. This feature allows you to connect to a Virtual Private Network (VPN). 2007-04-12 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Eugene Gorbunoff The only way to attract new users to eComStation - start sellings of eComStation PC. Only experienced user is able install eComStation on Core 2 Duo PC or notebook. If you have resources, please join this mission and become eComStation reseller. Here is the list of eComStation distributors, resellers and distributors of computers with eComStation pre-installed: official list -- http://ecomstation.com/where_purchase.phtml mirror list -- http://ecomstation.ru/solutions/?action=resellers What is eComStation PC? eComStation PC is a desktop/notebook with a non-standard case, with eComStation case badge, with eComStation pre-installed. Why eComStation PC still doesn't exist? not popular? * (OK, some distributors are selling PC with eComStation pre-installed, nevertheless..) * It's impossible open eComStation shop in every city. Users are living in different countries, different cities and districts. The size of eComStation community is not large. Users are going to the nearest computer shop and purchase hardware there. * The users always need specific hardware (manufactured by different companies, new fresh hardware). It's impossible make them purchase tested (old) hardware only. * Conclusion: it's impossible make users purchase eCS PC from eCS resellers only. eComStation resellers do not hasten to offer 2 or 3 models of eComStation PC. Why eComStation PC is so important? * User economizes time. All drivers and software is pre-installed. No troubles with LVM or ACPI. * Resellers will order service software, other special software from developers * User economizes money. PC + software is cheaper than separate components * It's very difficult make novice users purchase CD with eComStation. But it's easy sell them eComStation PC. How to support eComStation resellers and make them promote eComStation PC? * Support your local reseller. Buy hardware and software from the reseller again. Order a barebone or notebook from the reseller. * Promote your local reseller if he served you without problems in your local user group, forums. * Request system tools from the reseller Top

The filename is SigmaMD5v2.0.zip Hobbes Incoming: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/SigmaMD5v2.0.zip Later: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/misc/SigmaMD5v2.0.zip SigmaMD5 Reads & Creates MD5 checksum files. Is compatible with the output of Linux GNU MD5SUM and can check the eCs CD's for correct data using the MD5 checksum list files on the CD's. Provides a clear visual indication of checksum status (error's etc.) as well as error sorting, file filtering and comprehensive logging facilities. This version has a major enhancement: The maximum number of files that can be handled in one batch is 1,000,000. It was 32,768 Also - There is also now a sort function added when generating checksums. - If a network drive is disconnected (for example when selecting a drive) the program detects this and blocks the selection of this drive and gracefully avoids an extended wait while the system times on the non available drive. - During sorting the selected files a progress dialogue is displayed. The following languages are supported Chinese(Taiwanese) Dutch English French German Spanish - Help file is currently only available in English Italian Swedish If YOUR language is missing and you are willing to do some translation work then I will be only to pleased to incorporate your language in a future release.
