Net: Last Call for Warpstock 2007 Bids

2007-04-18
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Andy Willis

The Board of Directors of Warpstock Corporation is still accepting bids
from groups or individuals wishing to host Warpstock 2007.

Although there has been some discussion about various locations to hold
Warpstock 2007, the Board desires to get the process in motion by setting
May 10th, 2007 as the final date that we will accept formal proposals.

Teams wishing to bid on hosting Warpstock 2007 should submit a letter of
their intent to host this event to: bids AT warpstock DOT org.

The workload of the Event team has been reduced by the Board taking on the
responsibility of getting presenters and speakers, and the primary
responsibility of an event team is arranging for and coordinating the
physical facilities.

This proposal should contain a list of the individuals involved, the city
or area in which the event would be held, and the suggested date for the
event. It should also include the benefits of holding the event in their
suggested location. The letter of intent may contain any additional
information about the proposed bid that the team wishes to share. This
letter does not need to be in great detail about the proposed event, but
rather, a commitment from the group about entering into the bid process.

The Board of Directors will remain in close contact with the Teams
throughout the entire bid process, including final site selection.

Now is the time to get your proposals in! The deadline for receipt of
proposals is May 10, 2007. The Board will be making a decision about the
Warpstock 2007 event on May 12, 2007.

Warpstock Corporation is a Virginia corporation. The Warpstock annual
conference is a gathering of OS/2 users, developers, and vendors from
around the world for the purpose of education and advocacy. More
information is available at the Warpstock web site:

SW: Beta version of Cameraderie v1.5b

2007-04-19
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: VOICE News

Rich Walsh has released a beta update to his Cameraderie photo
organizer/downloader utility.

From: comp.os.os2..apps:

"I've just added support for mass-storage-device cameras and flash cards to
Cameraderie, my digital camera downloader & "pre-organizer". Now, I need
some help testing it out. If you're interested, try:

http://e-vertise.com/misc/cam15b2.zip (195k)

All of Cameraderie's features are available:
- a unified display that lets you view every photo on the device
in a single window, either as thumbnails or as a detailed listing
- versatile sorting and renaming features so that every photo
can be saved in the directory you want with the name you want
- automatic rotation that ensures your photos will always be
viewed and saved right-side up

It offers NLS support for German, Dutch, French, & English, and its readme
describes every feature in detail (French & English only).

I've done extensive testing using a fairly unreliable flash card and
reader, so I'm pretty sure it's solid but I'd like to confirm that. I'm
particularly interested in finding out whether:

- MSD cameras are recognized when connected directly
- flash cards are recognized when used in PCMCIA or ATAPI readers
- using LVM (if available) to automatically mount drives causes
any issues

FYI... Because Cameraderie is not (yet) a general-purpose photo viewer, it
will only work with drives that "look like cameras", i.e. removable drives
with a 'DCIM' subdirectory in the root. All others will be ignored.

Thanks for your help...

Net: Warpstock Europe websites concept and discussion

2007-04-19
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Christian Hennecke

Over the last years, organizers of Warpstock Europe events each had to
start from scratch in terms of web sites and gathering required
information. After Warpstock Europe 2006 in Cologne, Germany, the
organizers Thomas Klein and Roland Schmalenberg and a few others had a
discussion on how to improve the situation for future event teams.

The resulting concept for two web sites is available for discussion at
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Warpstock_Europe_Websites. Feel free to
comment and/or add information.

SW: New fast VESA video driver for eComStation

2007-04-19
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Eugene Gorbunoff

eCo Software and Mensys BV have reached an agreement to create a generic
VESA driver for eComStation.

This driver is called "Panorama VESA", and supports all VESA 2.0 compatible
video adapters, which then can be used with the eComStation operating
system. Until now some modern chipsets were not properly supported by the
Scitech SNAP driver that is included with eComStation.

The driver is currently under active development. The goal is to achieve
maximum performance, support multi-core computers, allow users to work
normally with their web-browser, watch DVD and to generally use their PC
for everyday work.

How to obtain this driver

An early preview of this driver is available via the eComStation BetaZone
to customers who have an active Software Subscription Services.

Requirements

Panorama VESA may be installed over GENGRAD, SDDGRAD or SNAP. To get
maximum performance on a Core 2 Duo or AMD X2 based computer, the ACPI
subsystem should be installed. ACPI can be obtained seperately from the
eComStation BetaZone but is also an install option with eComStation 2.0
(beta 2 and higher).

About Mensys BV

Mensys started out in 1993 with filling the gap that IBM left open with
regard to OS/2 software. Developers had great difficulty making their OS/2
product visible on the market. Mensys started to contact OS/2 resellers and
distributors worldwide and built an extensive distribution network. Mensys
has obtained worldwide distribution rights to eComStation and is actively
supporting it's further development.

About eCo Software

eCo Software is a small group of professional developers creating drivers,
WPS applications and system utilities for eComStation.

SW: WPIView Version 1.0.4

2007-04-21
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: herwig.bauernfeindDESPAM@DESPAMaon.at

The purpose of this program is to provide a simple tool for all those
WarpIN skeptics out there. WPIView enables the user to find out what is in
a WPI package and what this package is going to do to the system before it
is installed.

Latest changes/additions are:
+Added: Disable menu item and buttons in case no valid WPI archive is loaded
+Added: "Are you sure?" before executing code from within an archive.

*Changed: Enhanced icon (by David Graser, thank you!)
*Changed: WPIView can be minimized/closed/whatever as soon as WarpIN.EXE
is launched for Installation
*Changed: WPIview executes executable WPI archives directly
*Changed: "Debug" option is now official
!Fixed: Made the script decoding logic more flexible
!Fixed: Remembering the directory across sessions still did not work
properly
!Fixed: Restore window before closing (otherwise maximized size is saved)

Peter Weilbacher, who is the current builder of official Mozilla for OS/2
releases, reports that any problem reports concerning the Mozilla based
applications for (FireFox, Thunderbird, SeaMonkey and others) should be
entered at https://bugzilla.mozilla.org

"Problem posts to the newsgroup get forgotten and are hardly ever fixed.
For my enhanced products I take care to log them but for the official
releases they should go directly into Bugzilla."

If you just have a question or a comment about these applications or jus
twant to participate in a discussion on them then use the News group

SW: M.A.M.E. SDL Release

2007-04-23
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

KO Myung-Hun has released the SDL version of M.A.M.E. 0.114u2 for OS/2.
M.A.M.E., also known as Multiple Arcade Machine Emulator. It is capable of
running many Arcade games. You need arcade machine ROMs to run with it.
Google is friend. :-)

Be sure to use the -multithreading option. READ the SDLMAME.os2 file in
the archive!

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/sdlmame0114u2_os2.zip

You need InnoTek LIBC061 installed. If you are using Firefox 2.x (The
BEST, most stable OS/2 browser EVER!) or some of Paul's ports then you
already have this. If you have been living under a rock, then you can get
it here:

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.1-csd1.zip

The source has also been made available:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/sdlmame0114u2_os2_src.zip

NOTE: Obviously, the links for these files are to the Incoming directory
of Hobbes at the moment. If you are a lazy, worthless, procrastinator,
then you will have to search Hobbes yourself.
