2007-06-10 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel Currently the list is at 634 subscribers. That is down 21 subscribers since the beginning of the year. A number of people have been unsubscribed by myself because of rejections of VOICE News posts as SPAM. So if you suddenly no longer receive posts, its possible your ISP is rejecting them. Just a reminder that its important to send all OS/2 and eComStation related announcements to submit@os2voice.org or use the web form on http://www.os2voice.org/fSubNews.html Also please send any responses to any posts to the originating submitter and the feedback@os2voice.org. I will be away for the next week and Paul Smedley will be moderating the list in my absence. So sending any submissions to my personal address will either be missed or delayed. As always if you are submitting an announcement try to make it as brief as possible, but with basic information like a description of the item and a URL where more information can be found as well as a URL where it can be downloaded if it is software. Also if its an update please list what has been changed if you know it. Please also give complete identity of the sender as well as a contact address. We will do our best to obscure that, but readers may need to contact you. If you are a developer don't just upload your work to hobbes or your own web site and forget it. Write a short announcement and send it to VOICE so the OS/2-eComStation community can know what you have done and what the software is capable of doing. If so please send out an announcement so people know what you have worked on. I can only hunt down so much information on my own and it would be a really big help if people would send in announcements. Top

2007-06-12 From: Paul Smedley Hi All, I've just uploaded a package consisting of CUPS 1.2.11 (www.cups.org) + ESP Ghostscript 8.15.4 (http://www.cups.org/espgs/) + Gutenprint 5.1.2 (http://gimp-print.sourceforge.net/) This combination should allow printing on OS/2 & eComStation with printers that have not previously had drivers for our favourite OS - see http://gutenprint.sourceforge.net/p_Supported_Printers.php3 for details The package can be downloaded from: http://svn.netlabs.org/ecups/wiki/CupsPort Also at that site are some directions on how to use the package. Assuming success with the directions at that site, people could also try Bart's cups port driver in order to be able to print from existing OS/2 applications using CUPS (ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/ecups) As usual, feedback is appreciated to either paulDESPAM@DESPAMsmedley.info or to the ecups mailing list at news://news.gmane.org/gmane.org.netlabs.ecups.devel Cheers, Paul Smedley Adelaide, Australia 11th June, 2007 Top

2007-06-12 From: mc6530DESPAM@mclink.it ClamAV 0.90.3, a GPL anti-virus toolkit for eComStation and OS/2 Warp Clam AntiVirus is a GPL anti-virus toolkit for UNIX (and OS/2). The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use with your own software. Most importantly, the virus database is kept up to date. A multithread plugin for InetPowerServer is available, ask for details (not free software). Download new version from Hobbes: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=clamav Additional requirements: - libc 0.6.3 runtime: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.3-csd3.wpi - libc pathrewriter: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/contrib/klibccfg.wpi Since this software is ported for free, donations are welcome! you can use PayPal to donate me and support OS/2 developement. See my homepage for details, or ask :-) At least, a post card is welcome! Yuri Dario Top
2007-06-13 From: Paul Smedley Hi All, Unfortunately a packaging problem crept into the release.... A fix is now available at http://http://svn.netlabs.org/ecups/wiki/CupsPort An updated zip including the zip is currently uploading and will be available from the above URL soon. Sorry for the hassle.... Without the fix, an error about invalid device-url will occur when trying lpadmin. Thanks to Ed and Pete for taking the time to report the problem. Cheers, Paul. 2007-06-14 From: "Peter Koller" Maul Publisher is an industrial strength desktop publisher capable of creating virtually all of the printing seen on everyday household items. You can use it to easily lay out newspapers, cards, books, labels, stamps, posters, charts, forms, and even designs like building plans or furniture arrangements. The 'Maul Publisher for OS/2 V3.12 language translation toolkit' has been uploaded to http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/incoming/maulettk312.zip later http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=maulettk This toolkit is provided to allow others to translate Maul Publisher V3.12 resources to their own language. As this may require some concerted effort, please contact Maul Publisher support to coordinate your effort with other potential translators. Similarly, if you just want to fix some spelling, please share the result by contacting Maul Publisher support. 2007-06-14 From: ERACC Subscriptions Hello Folks, I have had an #ecomstation channel on the Freenode IRC network for about three months and have worked to get permission to relay the channel with eCSNet IRC network. I finally got an "ok" from eCSNet to do this and have set up a helper "bot" to relay with an #ecomstation channel on eCSNet. The bot is a Supybot with several features, one being a Factoid database that I hope to use to answer FAQs in the channels. Now one can use either network, join the #ecomstation channel and help with promoting eCS in real time. I intend for this to be a community based advertisement and support channel for eCS but of course the people involved with developing and distributing eCS are welcome. If you are a distributor/reseller for eCS or developer of software for eCS you are especially welcome here and are welcome to tastefully and minimally advertise your services in the channel. However, be sure to also offer some free support to end-users in the channel as well (answer questions, help with problems). One will be expected to be courteous and refrain from abusive language in the channel, no exceptions. eCSNet IRC network: <http://preview.tinyurl.com/yw2ykq> Freenode IRC network: <http://freenode.net/irc_servers.shtml> Come join up and start helping your fellow eCS users in real time.
