2007-12-01 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Joachims Benjamins Serenity Systems International and Mensys BV are pleased to announce the availability of the WPS integration package for OpenOffice.org 2.0 for eComStation and OS/2, version 1.0.1. This package is available to all subcribers of the OpenOffice.org for eComStation and OS/2 Support Agreement, via their login at the Mensys online shop (under Your Downloads -> Support Agreement for OpenOffice.org) ** Features ** - Extends the WPS data file class to recognize OpenOffice.org document files - Integrated support for WPS-Wizard hint and folder info area - Rexx hooks for reading document properties ** Installation ** The package is provided as a WarpIn package. Installation is performed by a double click on the base WPI file (OOoWPS101.wpi). Please note that WarpIn 1.0.15 or higher is required. You can download the latest WarpIn package from the download directory under your Mensys account. [ WPS data file class ] The WPS classes do not require OpenOffice.org to be installed to allow displaying of properties and preview thumbnail. OpenOffice.org for eComstation and OS/2 must be installed to allow drag'n'drop printing and opening of files. Use of the OpenOffice.org quickstart feature allows faster printing and opening, otherwise a new instance of the OpenOffice.org binaries will be invoked. [ WPS-Wizard support ] If you have installed WPS-Wizard (see below) please select the main WPS-Wizard installation directory, otherwise scripts cannot be placed in the proper place. WPS-Wizard official homepage: http://www.os2world.com/cdwriting/ WPS-Wizard latest info: http://svn.netlabs.org/wps-wizard/ [ REXX hooks ] See the WPS-Wizard scripts for a sample use of rexx hooks. [ Whats new in version 1.0.1 ] - Installation now properly detects and installs regardless of when OpenOffice.org is or is not available on the system. - This enables proper Drag and Drop printing and opening of documents (when a valid installation is found) - REXX scripts require full path to ooodoc.dll, fixed ** Known issues ** - Objects do not show 'in use' status when opened. ** Support ** Support specific to the eComStation and OS/2 version can be obtained through the ticketing system at: http://www.ecomstation.com/support/ooo2/ If you find any bugs, issues, or have other remarks, please provide as many details as possible and attach the soffice.log file created at every OOo2 crash: this file is located into your OpenOffice.org.2.0\program\ directory. A newsgroup is available for community support at: news://news.ecomstation.com/ecomstation.support.openoffice or http://news.ecomstation.com/thread.php?group=ecomstation.support.openoffice ** More information ** More information on OpenOffice.org can be found at: http://www.openoffice.org/ Information on the eComStation and OS/2 version can be found at: http://www.ecomstation.com/openoffice/ ** Enjoy! ** Best regards, Serenity Systems International & Mensys BV Top

During the last 5 years, it has been active and financially supported the Internet site, OS2 World.Com. Therefore, its founders are convinced that it is most natural that these two communities should join and, furthermore, be able to better support the OS2 community by forming the new OS2 World Foundation. The board said that it believes that national boundaries are obsolete due to the internationalization that has resulted from utilisation of the Internet. It has therefore chosen to place its entire efforts into online activities of OS2 World.Com, such such features as: * OS2 World.Com Award * OS2 World.Com Bounty System * OS2 World.Com Site Hosting The statement from the board also emphasised that OS2 World Foundation will be an international community that openly welcomes members from all nationalities and languages. For further information or questions, please contact: Lennart Gahm, (lgahm at os2ug dot se / +46 (0)70-738 74 24) or Kim Haverblad (kimh at os2world dot com / +46 (0)70-728 37 86). This news posting can also be found at OS2 World.Com. OS2 World.Com: Launched in May 2000 by Kim Haverblad, the site is now the best source for news about OS/2 & eCS. As an international collaborative community, the Internet site also gives the OS/2 & eCS community a common platform upon which they can interact with each other. OS2 World attracts an audience of more than 35,000 unique visitors per month. Having grown from modest origins into a powerful resource for OS/2 & eCS, it is now one of the major OS/2 & eCS sites available. Top

2007-12-05 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Sander Nyman <2sanderdDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net> Michael Kaply has released Mozilla's Firefox 2.0.0.11 (Official) for OS/2. This is a stability and security release. It contains the security updates and fixes from version 2.0.0.10, as well as fixing compatibility issues introduced in 2.0.0.10. You can download it here: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.11/contrib/firefox-2.0.0.11.en-US.os2.zip NOTE: This release requires the C runtime DLLs from Innotek. Version 0.5.1 includes an installer. Available here: http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe NOTE: This release requires IPLUGINW.DLL to use the Java and Flash plugins. Available here: http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi or here: http://download.innotek.de/javaos2/mozilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To make life even easier, I HIGHLY recommend that you download & use the Internet Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which actually contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with coordinating your web browser with your email client for "mailto" links, etc. You can find it here: http://7cities.net/~mckinnis/code/iai1050.exe Or, if you'd rather do it yourself, here is the Run! utility: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/run_060.zip Firefox extensions (add-ons) that add new functionality are available here: https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox Firefox themes (skins) are available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/themes/?application=firefox For release notes, and a list of new features, follow this link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0.0.11/releasenotes/ The official Warpzilla homepage can be found here: http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ If you have questions, or just want the latest, greatest tips for Firefox, Thunderbird, & Seamonkey, Steve Wendt's excellent "Tips For Warpzilla" page can be found here: http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html For Firefox "Tips & Tricks", see: http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_6.html And finally, if you still have questions, or just want to participate in a Mozilla for OS/2 discussion forum, the Warpzilla newsgroup can be found here: news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2 Regards, Sander Top

2007-12-07 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Jim Read The initial release of FileStar/2, v3.00.00, had an anomaly in that if the program was installed in the month of December, it caused an immediate disablement of drag-n-drop and directory operations when run without a key. The error that caused it was found and fixed in pre-release final tests but the corrected file was not included in the final FS/2 build. FlexEdit is not affected since the it was built with the correct file. This has been fixed in FS/2 v3.00.01 which is now available for download. For those that have experienced this problem in a FS/2 trial evaluation, please re-download and give it another trial. Users with keys are not affected.
