2007-12-16 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Christian Hennecke We're pleased to announce that since a couple of days, most of the transcripts (presentation documents) from the sessions at this years Warpstock Europe event are available for download on the presentations page: http://www.warpstock.eu/en/agenda/presentations.html Note however that some of the sessions were done in either workshop style or as an interactive demo, meaning there is no agenda or presentation available for it that we could offer for download. Yet again we need to thank Michael Oehlhof for providing us with a (more than timely!) extension to the wse_events TYPO3 module in order to enable the website to offer download links for the documents within its templates. Thanks, Michael! Top

2007-12-17 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Roland Schmalenberg Hi folks, this week was a week of three new TYPO3 releases. On 12th of december the TYPO3.org team released TYPO3 version 4.0.8 and 4.1.4 with security fixes around avoiding SQL injection in modfunc2 of index_search and bugfixes mainly in extensions HTMLArea and IRRE (Inline Relational Record Editing). I started to screw my GetTYPO3v4forOS2 v2.12 on Thursday but Friday 4.1.4 must be changed to release 4.1.5 as a hotfix to failing language strings other than the default one. So I changed my script yesterday again, finished the tests and uploaded GetTYPO3v4forOS2 version 2.13. What is TYPO3? -------------- For those people not knowing TYPO3 it should be mentioned that TYPO3 is a free Open Source Web Content Management System, released under GPL. More informations can be found at http://typo3.com/ or for developers at http://typo3.org/ Where to get, what to need? --------------------------- You are able to download the script package from the home of "TYPO3 goes eComStation", http://os4you.org/typo3goesecomstation.html All you need to run is a working OAMP or AMP4eCS (OS/2+Apache+MySQL+PHP, WPI available from http://www.amp4ecs.de/ ), my package and time to study ;-) Hint for TYPO3-Beginners ------------------------ Those who want to use that CMS with OS/2 or eComStation the first time should start with reading our documentation (available in English, Dutch, French and German) for the TYPO3 version 3.8.x (outdated but still available) and examin the quickstart-package. All others will be recommended to use the latest versions ... Merry Christmas Roland Schmalenberg Team TYPO3 goes eComStation (TT3geCS) Top

2007-12-20 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net> Mozilla's Firefox 3.0b2 (Official) for OS/2 has been released. This is a BETA release of Firefox 3, the next generation browser based on Mozilla's Gecko 1.9 platform. It should be used for testing and feedback purposes only. Take a moment to review the information and suggestions in the README.TXT file included in the archive. Some Extensions (Add-ons) may not yet be updated to work with Firefox 3. If you are looking to add new Extensions, you can check the Add-ons site using the link below to see if they are compatible with version 3. You can download it here: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/3.0b2/contrib/firefox-3.0b2.en-US.os2.zip NOTE: This release requires the C runtime DLLs from Innotek. In the unlikely event that you do not already have version 0.6.3 installed, it is available with an installer here: ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.wpi NOTE: This release requires IPLUGINW.DLL to use the Java and Flash plugins. Available here: http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi or here: http://download.innotek.de/javaos2/mozilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To make life even easier, I HIGHLY recommend that you download & use the Internet Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which actually contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with coordinating your web browser with your email client for "mailto" links, etc. You can find it here: http://7cities.net/~mckinnis/code/iai1050.exe Or, if you'd rather do it yourself, here is the Run! utility: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/run_060.zip Firefox extensions (add-ons) that add new functionality are available here: https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox Firefox themes (skins) are available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/themes/?application=firefox For release notes, and a list of new features, follow this link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/3.0b2/releasenotes/ The official Warpzilla homepage can be found here: http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ If you have questions, or just want the latest, greatest tips for Firefox, Thunderbird, & Seamonkey, Steve Wendt's excellent "Tips For Warpzilla" page can be found here: http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html For Firefox "Tips & Tricks", see: http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_6.html And finally, if you still have questions, or just want to participate in a Mozilla for OS/2 discussion forum, the Warpzilla newsgroup can be found here: news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2 Regards, Sander Top

2007-12-20 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Alex Taylor posted on news://news.ecomstation.com/ecomstation.apps I've uploaded version 2.01 of the Icon Themes Toolkit to the BetaZone. It should be available to all eCS users. I'd have uploaded it to the main eCS download site, except that I've forgotten how. :( So the it's on the BetaZone, even though it's not something to which "beta" really applies (it being mostly documentation). The Icon Themes Toolkit describes how to create your own Icon Themes. This version of the toolkit applies to ITHEME version 2.x, which is included in eCS version 2.x (possibly version 1.2mr as well; I've forgotten). The theme format is somewhat different compared to version 1, hence the need for an updated toolkit. I should have provided it long ago - most of it was written in 2006 - but I basically forgot that I'd never uploaded it anywhere. I think I was planning to provide more scripts for automation, and maybe even a helpful GUI, but realistically it's going to be a long time before that happens, given my current TODO list of various projects... 2007-12-21 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Paul Smedley Hi All, I've just added a port of Python v2.5.1 to my site at http://os2ports.smedley.info Python is a dynamic object-oriented programming language that can be used for many kinds of software development. It offers strong support for integration with other languages and tools, comes with extensive standard libraries, and can be learned in a few days. Many Python programmers report substantial productivity gains and feel the language encourages the development of higher quality, more maintainable code. Thanks to Andy Macintyre for previous EMX ports of Python, and to Knut for adding support for building Python via configure. This port has only had light testing - but works with BitTorrent here. It is suggested to add something like the following to config.sys to help Python find it's files: SET PYTHONHOME=e:/python25 SET PYTHONPATH=e:/python25/Lib;e:/python25/Lib/plat-os2knix;e:/python25/Lib/lib-dynload;e:/python25/Lib/site-packages If you like this software and want to support continued ports, please consider donating via PayPal via the link at http://smedley.info/os2ports, or via the Mensys online store at http://www.mensys.net/os2ports General feedback can be provided to paul@smedley.info, bug reports should go to http://mantis.smedley.info Cheers, Paul Smedley Adelaide, Australia 22nd December, 2007 Top
