SW: Uniaud32 v1.9.2 (April Fools release)

2008-04-01
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Paul Smedley

Hi All,

v1.9.2 is now available:
http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.2.zip
&
http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.2-debug.zip

uniaud16.sys from Uniaud 1.1.4RC5 is the recommended version

From the readme:
This build of uniaud32.sys has the ALSA code level based completely on ALSA
1.0.16. Uniaud 1.1.4rc5 is based on ALSA versions ranging from 0.9.x
through to 1.0.14. The aim is to provide a version of Uniaud based on the
absolute latest ALSA Code - this is a stepping stone on the way to that.
This will become Uniaud32 2.0 once we feel that it is stabilised and offers
improved support for Audio than Uniaud 1.1.x

Due to the backlevelling of some code - some sound cards that currently
work with Uniaud 1.1.4rc5 may not work with this build.

Specifically, due to compilation issues, the following backends are NOT
supported:
- emu10k1 (aka sb live) - linux code loads the firmware from a local
drive in later ALSA versions - this isn't working yet on OS/2

As time permits, support for these will be reinstated.

The source is now in SVN and can be browsed at
http://svn.netlabs.org/uniaud/browser/GPL/branches/uniaud32-2.0

Changes since 1.9.0 (25th March release)
- Fix hardware sample rate setting
- Add ACPI support for determining IRQ (Hopefully fallsback to old code
on machines without acpi.psd)
- Various tidyups
- Bump version to 1.9.2 (1.9.1 was used for internal test versions)

Thanks to all those testers who have provided feedback on the 1.9.x
releases that are based on ALSA 1.0.16!!!

All feedback is greatly appreciated, particularly any improvements or
deteriorations compared with Uniaud 1.1.4

Cheers,

Paul.

SW: Enhanced Mozilla

2008-04-02
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Peter Weilbacher

My newest batch of enhanced Mozilla apps
- SeaMonkey 1.1.9 (integrated internet suite, successor of "Mozilla")
- PmW-Fx 2.0.0.13 (internet browser, an enhanced Firefox)
- PmW-Tb 2.0.0.13 (eMail client, an enhanced Thunderbird)
is available via http://pmw-warpzilla.sf.net/

Enhancements over the official versions are
* better WPS integration
* MNG/JNG support
* included ipluginw.dll for plugin support
* high memory support
* other small improvements
All applications need libc063.dll to run, find the package on
ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc

These releases pick up all the changes done by Mozilla since my last Gecko
1.8.1.x release, i.e. between 28 Jan 2008 and 11 Mar 2008. This includes
fixes for 6 security issues, two of them of critical importance. One OS/2
specific fix for SeaMonkey was contributed by Walter Meinl.

Please post to the mozilla.dev.ports.os2 newsgroup (on
news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2 ) if you find problems.

Peter.

v1.9.3 is now available:

&
http://download.smedley.info/uniaud32-1.9.3-debug.zip

uniaud16.sys from Uniaud 1.1.4RC5 (or later) is the recommended version

From the readme:
This build of uniaud32.sys has the ALSA code level based completely on ALSA
1.0.16. Uniaud 1.1.4rc5 is based on ALSA versions ranging from 0.9.x

http://svn.netlabs.org/uniaud/browser/GPL/branches/uniaud32-2.0

If traps in module ACPI are seen at startup, please ensure you're using an
ACPI version >= 3.05

Changes since 1.9.2 (1st April release)
- Fix hardware sample rate setting (again) - fixes Trap 0008 playing
startup sound on some hardware
- Various tidyups
- Bump version number to 1.9.3
- some changes to try and reduce file size of uniaud32.sys

Thanks to all those testers who have provided feedback on the 1.9.x
releases that are based on ALSA 1.0.16!!!

All feedback is greatly appreciated, particularly any improvements or
deteriorations compared with Uniaud 1.1.4

Paul.

Event: DWS2008 -- it's time to make the decision

2008-04-05
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Eugene Gorbunoff

Forget about your daily tasks, move to Dusseldorf in the end of the May!
Developers Workshop 2008 --
http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Developers_Workshop_2008

* What makes a successful conference?
Good presentations + hot discussions + and.. *Report* from the conference.
Who is ready to play the role of the reporter? Are you ready to get interviews,
make photos and collect comments? It's very important to distribute the
information about the results of the conference among all users and developers.

* Do you have a report for other developers? For example,
** you can make a review of modern technologies which are needed in eCS
** prepare a review of coming technologies: USB 3.0, IPv6, etc.
** which new node applications should be created? (so other developers can
create plugins for this node applications)

* Seems that Mensys team is going visit the conference too (Mensys is
responsible for the development, assembly and delivery of eComStation).
Do you have questions to Mensys?

* Do you have remote control to make presentations? Central Remote
Control supports AirClick --

From: Mark Dodel

"ACPI (short for "Advanced Configuration and Power Interface") is a
standard that defines power and configuration management interfaces
between an operating system and Hardware. It is meant to supersede
the older APM standard (for power management) and provide a generic
interface for recognition and configuration of hardware devices."
