Event: Live Streaming from Developers Workshop 2008

2008-05-16
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Adrian Gschwend

Tomorrow the Developers Workshop 2008 will take place. Again we will stream
the presentations via an Ogg Vorbis audio stream.

This means you can follow the presentations live even if you are not in
Germany this weekend!

You can find more information about how you can listen to the stream at

http://wiki.netlabs.org/index.php/Developers_Workshop_2008#Live_Stream_of_Presentations

We also take a web cam with us, I couldn't test that yet so it will work
just in time I hope. Information about that can also be found in the wiki
once it works.

If you would like to ask questions you can join the #netlabs IRC channel on
irc.freenode.net, we will hang around there as well during the event.

Hope to see some of you online!

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

http://www.rsj.de/stage/en/cdwriter/default2.asp

"Using RSJ CD Writer you can create new CDs or copy data and audio CDs.

RSJ CD View copies all kind of CDs in just a few steps.

If you want to create a 1:1 copy of a CD, RSJ CD Copy Wizard offers the
easiest solution.

RSJ CD Writer integrates seamlessly into your operating system:

* Copy files to CDs just by drag and drop - using your favourite file
manager (i.e. Windows Explorer, WPS, ...).
* RSJ CD Writer creates "on the fly copies". Thus the data is read in
directly from the CD-ROM during the copying process - this saves time and
does not require memory space on the harddisk.
* Completely unattended, automated operation possible.
* RSJ CD Writer supports about any current CD recorder.
* and much more..."

Also now supports USB DVD writer drives -

SW: Python port updated to v2.5.2

2008-05-21
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Mark Dodel

http://www.smedley.info/os2ports/

Paul Smedley has updated his port of Python for OS/2 & eComStation to 2.5.2

Python is a dynamic object-oriented programming language that can be used
for many kinds of software development. It offers strong support for
integration with other languages and tools, comes with extensive standard
libraries, and can be learned in a few days. Many Python programmers report
substantial productivity gains and feel the language encourages the
development of higher quality, more maintainable code.

Python runs on Windows, Linux/Unix, Mac OS X, OS/2, Amiga, Palm Handhelds,
and Nokia mobile phones. Python has also been ported to the Java and .NET
virtual machines.

Python is distributed under an OSI-approved open source license that makes
it free to use, even for commercial products.

The Python Software Foundation (PSF) holds and protects the intellectual
property rights behind Python, underwrites the PyCon conference, and funds
grants and other projects in the Python community.

OS/2 port information:

Thanks to Andy Macintyre for previous EMX ports of Python, and to Knut for
adding support for building Python via configure.

This port has only had light testing - but works with BitTorrent here.

It is suggested to add something like the following to config.sys to help
Python find it's files:
SET PYTHONHOME=e:/python25
SET
PYTHONPATH=e:/python25/Lib;e:/python25/Lib/plat-os2knix;e:/python25/Lib/lib-dynload;e:/python25/Lib/site-packages
