2008-09-10 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ September 9, 2008 Firefox 2.0.0.16 has been released. Zip File:http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.16/contrib/firefox-2.0.0.16.en-US.os2.zip Release Notes:http://en-us.www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0.0.16/releasenotes/ Requires a libc0.6.3 based version of the GCC runtime library.http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/#gccrtl Following information courtesy of Sander Nyman: NOTE: This release requires IPLUGINW.DLL to use the Java and Flash plugins. Available here:http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi or here:http://download.innotek.de/javaos2/mozilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To make life even easier, I HIGHLY recommend that you download & use the Internet Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which actually contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with coordinating your web browser with your email client for "mailto" links, etc. You can find it here: http://7cities.net/~mckinnis/code/iai1050.exe Or, if you'd rather do it yourself, here is the Run! utility:http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/cgi-bin/h-search?key=run_070.zip Firefox extensions (add-ons) that add new functionality are available here:https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox Firefox themes (skins) are available here:https://addons.mozilla.org/themes/?application=firefox For release notes, and a list of new features, follow this link:http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0.0.14/releasenotes/ The official Warpzilla homepage can be found here:http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ If you have questions, or just want the latest, greatest tips for Firefox, Thunderbird, & Seamonkey, Steve Wendt's excellent "Tips For Warpzilla" page can be found here:http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html For Firefox "Tips & Tricks", see:http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_6.html Please send all comments and general discussion to the news group news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2 Please enter all problem reports into https://bugzilla.mozilla.org

2008-09-11 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Peter Moylan To consolidate the changes that have been made over the last year, the Weasel mail server has been updated to version 1.78. You can download it from http://www.pmoylan.org/pages/os2/weasel.html or from ftp://ftp.pmoylan.org/Weasel/weasel178.zip or by searching for "weasel" on Hobbes. Weasel is a mail server for OS/2. As well as supporting the basic mail server functions, it has many security features such as filtering, authentication, blacklists, etc. The standard version is shareware but registration is optional. Registration is required to upgrade to the "Pro" version which supports multiple mail domains. LIST OF CHANGES (since version 1.77) (Most of these changes will already have been seen by people who have downloaded beta versions. Only the last change is completely new.) Version 1.78 (11 Sep 2008) Setup now remembers the last page that was open. Fixed: crash when all logging was turned off. Fixed: "out of memory" problem on POP3 login when user has too many messages on server. Fixed: response to SMTP EHLO was advertising AUTH methods that were disabled. Fixed: memory leak when delivering local mail. Slowed down dictionary attacks that use AUTH commands. Minor changes to the way the top two lines of the screen are written. Fixed: username missing from POP log when user logged in with AUTH command. Minor change to default replies used when a filter rejects mail. Restrictions on which users may use SMTP AUTH (as specified in the user page in Setup) Alterations to "too many bad passwords" POP3 check: - can specify the number of tries before disconnecting; - 3-second delay comes after, not before error reply; - can disable this test completely, if desired. Added the Spanish language file. Minor change to user Setup dialogue. To fix an "out of memory" problem, limited the number of messages visible to a POP client to 512.
