2008-02-18 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel Clam AntiVirus is a GPL anti-virus toolkit for UNIX (and OS/2). The main purpose of this software is the integration with mail servers (attachment scanning). The package provides a flexible and scalable multi-threaded daemon, a command line scanner, and a tool for automatic updating via Internet. The programs are based on a shared library distributed with the Clam AntiVirus package, which you can use with your own software. Most importantly, the virus database is kept up to date. A multithread plugin for InetPowerServer is available, ask for details (not free software). Latest build for OS/2 is version 0.92.1, and is available on Yuri Dario's web site: http://web.os2power.com/yuri/ClamAV Additional requirements: * libc 0.6.3 runtime ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/libc-0.6.3-csd3.wpi * libc pathrewriter ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/gcc/contrib/klibccfg.wpi Top

2008-02-19 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Mark Dodel Paul Smedley has another unofficial build of the Open Source Edition of VirtualBox for OS/2 host. Note there is no official OS/2 host, but some Innotek employees and others have worked on a version for OS/2 based on the Open Source Edition of VirtualBox. I have not yet tried this version, but the previous versions did not have working sound or direct device support (you need to make an ISO of a CD to access it). And the Tap network driver hung my system on netbind. I think this was related to my also having the VPC/2 network driver installed or my use of the GenMac wifi driver. NAT networking as well as shared folders worked fine. Get Vbox/2 here: http://www.smedley.info/os2ports/index.php?page=virtualbox Download: http://download.smedley.info/virtualbox-svn-20080218-os2.zip Whatsnew: Build 8 14. feb 2008 ---------------------------------------- - Fixed SMP issues. QT GUI should work more reliable now. Known issues: - Vbox/2 can't access physical devices (cdrom floppy HD comport), only images - OS/2 MCP2 should be supported as guest OS, but is doesn't work when using this host version. - You can currently only run 1 Vbox/2 at a time. - Shared clipboard is not implemented yet. Networking: HIF/TAP networking is only working in SDL interface Official website: http://www.virtualbox.org "innotek VirtualBox is a family of powerful x86 virtualization products for enterprise as well as home use." Official unofficial builds of the OS/2 host can be found at ftp://ftp.dmik.org/pub/common/vbox/ User Manual: http://virtualbox.org/download/1.5.4/UserManual.pdf There is now a support forum for the OS/2 host on the Innotek VirtualBox website: http://forums.virtualbox.org/viewforum.php?f=10 Top

2008-02-20 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net> Michael Kaply has released Mozilla's Firefox 2.0.0.12 (Official) for OS/2. This is a stability and security release which fixes 10 security vulnerabilities, including 3 rated critical, and 1 rated high. You can download it here: http://releases.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/releases/2.0.0.12/contrib/firefox-2.0.0.12.en-US.os2.zip NOTE: This release requires the C runtime DLLs from Innotek. Version 0.5.1 includes an installer. Available here: http://download.innotek.de/gccos2/runtime/libc-0.5.1.exe NOTE: This release requires IPLUGINW.DLL to use the Java and Flash plugins. Available here: http://e-vertise.com/warpzilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi or here: http://download.innotek.de/javaos2/mozilla/ipluginw20050915.xpi NOTE: To have both Firefox, & Thunderbird in use at the same time (or ANY other Mozilla app) they *MUST* be at the SAME version level, or a mismatched DLL will still be in memory when you attempt to start a second Mozilla based program. The easiest way to get around this limitation, and use DIFFERENT version levels of Firefox, Thunderbird, Kompozer, etc., is with Rich Walsh's Run! utility. It is tiny, and VERY easy to set up. To make life even easier, I HIGHLY recommend that you download & use the Internet Application Integration utility from Chuck McKinnis, which actually contains the Run! utility, and sets it up for you, along with coordinating your web browser with your email client for "mailto" links, etc. You can find it here: http://7cities.net/~mckinnis/code/iai1050.exe Or, if you'd rather do it yourself, here is the Run! utility: http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/pub/os2/util/wps/run_060.zip Firefox extensions (add-ons) that add new functionality are available here: https://addons.update.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox Firefox themes (skins) are available here: https://addons.mozilla.org/themes/?application=firefox For release notes, and a list of new features, follow this link: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/2.0.0.12/releasenotes/ The official Warpzilla homepage can be found here: http://www.mozilla.org/ports/os2/ If you have questions, or just want the latest, greatest tips for Firefox, Thunderbird, & Seamonkey, Steve Wendt's excellent "Tips For Warpzilla" page can be found here: http://www.os2bbs.com/os2news/Warpzilla.html For Firefox "Tips & Tricks", see: http://www.tweakguides.com/Firefox_6.html And finally, if you still have questions, or just want to participate in a Mozilla for OS/2 discussion forum, the Warpzilla newsgroup can be found here: news://news.mozilla.org/mozilla.dev.ports.os2 Regards, Sander Top

2008-02-22 ++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++ From: Jan van Wijk This is a minor release adding better control over variable substitution in scripts and on the commandline.
