SW: MPlayer version dev-SVN-r27724-4.3.2 Has Been Released

2008-10-25
++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Sander Nyman <2sanderDESPAM@DESPAMsbcglobal.net>

MPlayer version dev-SVN-r27724-OS2-4.3.2 has been released. This OS/2 port
is done by KO Myung-Hun. MPlayer is probably the most widely used open
source movie player available. It runs on many Operating Systems,
including OS/2 thanks to KO Myung-Hun. It can take advantage of OS/2 video
support from SNAP, WarpOverlay!, or DIVE.

Take a moment to look over the included README file for installation, usage
and options information. MPlayer, including source code is currently
located on Hobbes in the incoming directory:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/mplayer-dev-SVN-r27724-OS2-4.3.2.zip

And source code is available here:

http://hobbes.nmsu.edu/download/pub/incoming/mplayer-dev-SVN-r27724-OS2-4.3.2-src.zip

One of the best (for OS/2) features of MPlayer is it's ability to use Win32
binary codecs, which obviously expands it's versatility greatly. All that
is required for use of this feature is the Win32 binary codec package
available here:

http://www.mplayerhq.hu/design7/dload.html

To install MPlayer and the codecs package, please see the README
documentation in the archive.

MPlayer requires LIBC v0.6.3. In the unlikely event that you do not
already have it, you can download it here:

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/libc/libc-0_6_3-csd3.wpi

SMPlayer, a front end for MPlayer has been made available for OS/2 by
Silvan Scherrer:

ftp://ftp.netlabs.org/pub/smplayer

For more information on MPlayer, the home page is at:

++ From the VOICE OS/2-eCS News Service http://www.os2voice.org ++

From: Christian Hennecke

Besides the actual event web pages, the warpevents.eu web site team is also
offering forums which are intended to ease the planning of your stay. Feel
free to join the discussion groups for asking questions, getting answers,
and sharing information about

* travel planning (questions, issues, etc.),
* car-pooling and public transport,
* participants information,
* visitor support (sightseeing, accomodation), and
* question regarding the web site.

While you don't need to have a user account for reading any of the
messages, posting to these forums requires registration in order to avoid
abuse. The registration process is pretty much straightforward,
lightweight, and worth the effort. Existing accounts for warpevents.eu and
older incarnations of warpstock.eu are valid for login, too.

The Generalised Bitmap Module (GBM) is a library capable of loading and
saving bitmap files in a variety of popular and less popular bitmap file

pictures are in, or any details about file format itself. It comes with a
useful set of command line bitmap manipulation tools.

Get package gbmos2_162_bin.zip or the WarpIN installation package from
Hobbes (see below).

Enhanced GBMV/GBMV2 Version 1.53

What's new:
-----------
NEW: Build support for Microsoft Visual C++ (Windows 32bit)
Supported targets (via makefile):
* GBM executables & DLL
* GBM test and demo file creator
* J2K_CODEC executables (OpenJPEG decoder and encoder)
* Binaries available on GBM homepage

NEW: Build support for Linux (32bit and 64bit)
Supported targets:
* GBM executables & shared lib
* GBM test and demo file creator
* J2K_CODEC executables (OpenJPEG decoder and encoder)
* Binaries available on GBM homepage

GBM.DLL 1.62
* JPEG codec:
- allow a broader range of DC table symbols in huffman decoder
to support loading of PhotoPaint created JPEGs
* TIFF codec:
- Fix: Use a temporary scanline buffer for writing palette bitmap
because otherwise the original bitmap data are modified. This
was the case for instance with the LZW compressor with horizontal
prediction.
* PNG codec:
- Update to Libpng 1.2.32
- add support for writing a comment

* Fix buffer overrun when parsing very long option strings

GBM command line tools 1.53,
GBM PM tools 1.53 (GBMV, GBMV2, GBMVFSA, GBMLOGO)
* The command line parser now additionally supports the following
file specification templates:
"filename"\",\"options
"filename"\",\""options"
This should be hopefully work for all variants now.
"\"filename\"{,opt}" does not work together when &, |, < or >
are part of the filename because the shell will interprete them
as operators and cut the filename.
The old template will continue to work for backward compatibility
reasons but the tools will from now on recommend the new template

GBMV/GBMV2 1.53
* GBMV2:
- Added Shift+A keyboard shortcut to activate selection mode
- Reworked online help for more consistency, some corrections
- Fix: The online help and the menu for rotating was inconsistent
(not mathematical correct).
* Some correction for struct paddings for GCC builds

GBM File Dialog 1.53
* Add comment parameter for PNG export to the online help
* improve description of comment parameter in online help

GBM plugin for Netscape/Mozilla/Firefox/SeaMonkey (NPGBM.DLL version 1.38)
GBM for Lucide (LUGBM.DLL 1.37)
* Enforce struct padding to 4 byte for compiler independent compatibility
* Common dynamic DLL loaders for GBM.DLL & GBMDLG.DLL reworked
- GbmAccessor for GBM.DLL now also supports Windows

GBMRX.DLL 1.13, GBMDLGRX.DLL 1.04
* incorporate changes done during porting GBM to Windows & Linux

For more details see the change log in the documentation.

Have fun,
Heiko Nitzsche
(Germany, 31-Oct-2008)
